The area (Dundee):
Situated on the Tay Estuary, Dundee is Scotland's sunniest city. The city has plenty of places to see and visit, whether you are looking for a family day out, visit one of the annual events, or want to learn more about the city's history, with its monuments and landmarks, its maritime heritage, the arrival of jute or the city's new scientific and design excellence.

The V&A Museum of Design is a centre for design and adds further acclaim to the city's culture portfolio. RRS Discovery is moored at Discovery Point in Dundee (next to the V&A) and open for visitor tours. Built in the city in 1900, RRS Discovery was the ship, which carried Captain Scott on his first expedition across the Antarctic.

There is no better way to see the city and its wildlife than taking a trip along the famous River Tay. Numerous tour operators offer trips from March to September. Bottlenose dolphins and seals are regular visitors to the estuary.

Dundee is now home to one of Scotland’s newest leisure pools and The Olympia is the number one destination for people looking to make a splash when visiting Dundee.

Dundee Science Centre is the only UK science centre based on the 5 senses and it s a terrific spot for curious kids of all ages.

Verdant Works. The rattle and the roar of original restored machinery transport you back over 100 years to an era when jute was king and Dundee was its realm. This 5-star award-winning attraction is a hands-on experience for everyone.

Avertical World Climbing Centre is good fun whether you are already an experienced climber or want to try something new.

Feeling energetic... the wakeboarding and water activity centre, which includes Stand-up Paddleboarding, Ringo Rides and the Aqua Park obstacle course has been constructed at West Victoria Dock Road in Dundee (March-October).

Camperdown Country Park is a stones throw from the cottage and open all year, offering a range of activities including woodland trails, an adventure playground and Camperdown Wildlife Centre, where you can see European brown bears, wolves, lynx and ring tailed lemurs.

Housed in a splendid Gothic Revival-style building, The McManus: Dundee Art Gallery and Museum offers a fascinating insight into Dundee. With eight galleries to explore, there is a wealth of information to discover in exhibitions of art, history and the environment.

Dundee’s food and drink scene is transforming at a dynamic pace. Contemporary restaurants and enterprising bistros sit alongside cool coffee houses, tasteful cafes, craft beer bars and good food shops.

The area (Surrounding):
North of the cottage, you will find Glamis castle, the childhood home of the late Queens Mother (14 miles drive).

Kirrimuir the birthplace of J M Barrie, author of Peter Pan, and the wonderful glens; Clova, Isla and Prosen with Scotlands breath-taking scenery and walking routes, are all within a 45 minute drive.

St Andrews the home of golf is a mere 18 miles from the door, with a further 20 golf courses (including world renowned Championship Courses; such as Carnoustie, Kingsbarn and Gleneagles), within a 40 minute drive.

Dundee train station, 6 miles away, is the gateway for some fantastic day trips, including Edinburgh (1hr 15 mins), Aberdeen (1hr 10 mins) and Glasgow (1hr 20 mins). A short drive will take you to one of the surrounding beaches available on your doorstop, including Broughty Ferry or across the Tay Bridge to the large, secluded beach on the edge of Tentsmuir Forest in Fife or head north St Cyrus Beach, North of Montrose.

Wonderful cottage
Right from the initial booking where I had excellent communication from Gillian, the owner, I knew this was going to be a great stay and it did not disappoint. The cottage is on a quiet estate, very easy to get to and the instructions were spot on. The cottage itself was immaculate. Everything you could want is provided (nice little welcome basket and milk in the fridge). Very spacious, very comfortable beds. We all had great nights sleep - it’s a very quiet location so that helped. Loved our short stay and I’d like to say we will be back at some point.

Charming, convenient, and well appointed.
Lovely property was well prepared for us. Good kitchen reasonably well stocked. On a handsome old estate and convenient to sites without being in the tourist corridor. Just an hour to Edinburgh airport. Gillian was very communicative and friendly. Good home base for visits to Stirling, St. Andres, and the northeast coast.

Great stay in a peaceful setting
We had a lovely time staying in this spacious, well-situated cottage. Located on the quiet grounds of an estate, it was a great base for getting to Cairngorms and Trossachs National Parks, and for an easy drive to St. Andrews. The hosts, Gillian and Michael, were very helpful and welcoming, responsive to all our questions before and during and our stay, and gave great recommendations for beautiful hikes. Thanks for a great holiday!

The hosts were so lovely, communicative and helpful right from the beginning. Could not ask for more. The property is delightful, light, airy, clean, beautifully finished and well provisioned. We were working long hours and Gillian and Michael were happy to change all the heating and water settings to accommodate our odd working/waking hours. Very much appreciated Would definitely recomen to anyone - would love to come back for a holiday - we never got to sit in the lovely lounge! Thank you for having us - Gill, Pam and Claudia

Incredible Experience
Me and my wife and our friends had an amazing experience in Scotland for the Open Championship. The majority of what made this great was our stay at the cottage. The hosts were very communicative from the beginning of our booking through check-in and check-out. They provided us great recommendations for transportation, golf and restaurants during our stay. This cottage was a great location for getting around to the various locations of Scotland we were visiting on our stay. I highly recommend this cottage.

Cutest little cottage in beautiful surroundings
We had a wonderful stay in Dundee. The cottage was beautifully presented and super cosy, the log burner was a lovely addition We used on a couple of occasions. We had a shorter than expected stay due to a family emergency at home but on contacting gillian she was super helpful and sympathetic with us leaving early. While we stayed at the cottage the location was super easy to find, accessible for beautiful walks with our dogs and was great for accessing the city for shopping! We would highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing break. Thanks again to Gillian and Michael

Stunning, clean, well equipped home with great gardens. Took our Westie who loved the walks in the area. For those wanting to venture out, local attractions nearby and owners have recommended places to visit. A particular favourite for us was Lunan Bay. Sad to leave and hope to return in future. Beautiful cottage!
We had a wonderful, relaxing and comfortable three night break in this immaculate and well-appointed cottage. The owners had thought of everything and could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The enclosed garden was perfect for the dog (or younger child), and the extended grounds we're beautiful. There are excellent and reassuring Covid-safe procedures in place. Should we find ourselves in the area again, we will definitely return to this property!

Fabulous Stay
We've just returned from a fantastic stay at this lovely cottage. Our host Gillian was there to offer a warm welcome on arrival and provided lots of helpful information on the cottage and the surrounding area. The cottage itself was even nicer than the photographs, beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and offering everything you could possibly need for your stay. The grounds are lovely and peaceful and ideal for walking. We even enjoyed a few games of tennis! Dundee and St Andrews with all their attractions are within easy reach too. We look forward to returning very soon!

Fantastic family Cottage
We are a family of 5 and stayed here for 3 nights. It was a beautiful location very suited to families. It is situated in expansive grounds with lots of space for little ones to explore and play. The cottage itself is brilliantly kitted out with everything you need. Gillian and Michael were wonderful hosts, really helpful and very generous with their time, they were there to greet us and to say cheerio and on the end of the phone to answer any questions even providing a little local knowledge to guide us. We had a lovely stay and only wish we’d stayed longer. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a high quality place to stay.

Stunning cottage and great location.
From start to finish we had a wonderful stay at West Cottage. The cottage is even more stunning than the pictures and everything is of the highest quality and very well equipped. The estate is beautiful, as is the surrounding area with plenty of scenic dog walks nearby. We found plenty of things to do within easy reach such as Camperdown Wildlife Centre and park and the town is only 10 mins away with many restaurants and bars. Gillian and Michael were excellent hosts, starting with providing all the info we could need in advance of our stay, including maps and dog friendly places to go and a warm personal welcome when we arrived. We would definitely recommend this lovely holiday cottage and it’s owners.

Found a little gem!
Everything about Westwood Cottage is fabulous! The owners answered any questions, gave detailed information and met us at the property to settle us in. The cottage itself is spacious, very clean and well maintained. It is tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished and provides all the home from home amenities you need. (Everything you can think of is catered for) Every room is a good size with some lovely touches in each room. It's the little things that Gillian and Michael have done that make this place special and stand out as a place you want to return to again and again. The location of the cottage is ideal for some R&R, perfect if you want to explore the local area and excellent as a base for travel further afield. We did a bit of it all while we stayed! My teenagers enjoyed the complimentary WiFI and Netflix. My puppy, on her first trip, enjoyed the large fully enclosed garden. Michael and Gillian have created a little gem and we would definitely return and recommend to friends.

Great Property
Stay here, it’s excellent. The owners are very friendly, helpful and attentive. The property is really well equipped, very spacious, comfortable and the surrounding estate is great to wander around. And the garden area is pretty large and totally fenced in and you can leave your dog out there without worrying. Cons: they’ve got a fancy expresso machine but no cafetière. And that’s about the only criticism I have! Really great place for a get together. Couldn’t recommend it enough.
