3 bedroom Historic Cottage With View Over Aberlady Bay

The cottage of Luffness Castle, which has been completely modernised, used to be the house of one of the gardeners at the castle of Luffness. The view from its windows is over a field where sheep graze, often accompanied by deer. Beyond the field is Aberlady Bay, its nature reserve and a path leading to beautiful beaches. The sunsets are particularly memorable.

Golf is the prime reason why many people come to East Lothian. There are eleven golf courses, all of whom welcome visitors, within five miles of Luffness with many more further afield. There are also many other attractions for the visitor. The beaches and dunes at Gullane are particularly attractive for children. The Ornithological Centre in Aberlady, the Museum of Flight at Athelstaneford and the Seabird Centre at North Berwick are only three of many others.

Excellent restaurants, takeaways and public houses are to be found, within two miles of Luffness, in both Aberlady and Gullane, with many more a bit further away in Haddington and North Berwick.

Fairytale Property a 20 minute train ride to Edinburgh
We traveled with two kids under four, my spouse, and her parents. The apartment had tons of space and a nice patio as well. This cottage is literally built within the wall of the castle grounds. The very windows you look out to see the ocean and the sheep are built right into the wall. The walk around the property is fantastic. Beautiful rose gardens, herbs everywhere, and more apple trees than you can count. There are many walking trails just outside the castle walls as well. You will definitely need to rent a car if you stay here. The nearest bus stop is a 12 minute walk. So it’s doable, but not ideal if the weather is rainy. The towns around the area are really fun to explore and the restaurants in Aberlady are great. You’ll want to take the train to Edinburgh from Longniddry. It’s only an 8 minute drive to the station and a 20 minute train ride from there to the city center. You’ll love everything about this cottage, the location, and the magic of the grounds.

Lovely
Our stay was one of a memorable one. The location of the property was excellent being within a large estate with a stunning view looking out to the ocean. It is also located very close to Gullane and North Berwick where we enjoyed shopping and some activities. We truly enjoyed the hospitality of Mr and Mrs Hope and the whole Hope family and also Michelle.

Beautiful location
The grounds of Luffness Castle were stunning and within easy walking distance of Aberlady. Would highly recommend the Duck Inn Hotel. We had a lovely meal there and great service too. There were plenty of beautiful beaches to visit in the surrounding area and would recommend trips to Gullane beach and the treasured sands of Aberlady Bay. Great barbecue facilities and outdoor eating area at the property which we made the most off in the sunshine. A fabulous stay enjoyed by all the family.

Great Visit
This is a great property I would recommend it to anyone. Everything is just as discribed. The owners of the property are great with nice suggestions on things to do in the area. The history of the property is pretty interesting. Be sure to allow time to walk around the property. Everything is modern and clean inside. I would suggest making sure and ask how the showers work, they are a little different to get started than normal.

Our Stay at Luffness Historic Castle Grounds
This historic cottage was a real treat! I recommend reading the history of the cottage prior to your visit it will make it even more special. The Hopes were wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. To see the castle grounds and experience Edinburgh was a life experience we will never forget. The home had all the necessities needed and pictures were as described. It was easy for my legally blind husband to navigate around in as it is on one level. Thank you for providing this lovely cottage for our stay in Scotland.

Perfect Cottage with tranquility and more!
Having to please five family members on a vacation can be a task, but this cottage pleased everyone and exceeded all expectations! My youngest daughter didn’t want to leave and is still talking about the beautiful roses, castle and favorite summer cottage for tea! Her follow on to London left her comparing Hampton Court to Luffness and she preferred Luffness. 😊 The owners went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and have a memorable time in Scotland and their home. My family will have fond memories and cherish them always. Thank you so much for everything. I will definitely return here if ever in Scotland. Perfect for families and couples, The town co-op has everything you’ll need and the people are all wonderful and kind.

Very comfortable spacious and well appointed property
The cottage was very comfortable, in beautiful surroundings, and very quiet and peaceful. The host was very accommodating and our one small query was answered in minutes. I would be happy to pass on details to all friends. This place is especially good for toddlers as it is well within the castle grounds and far from traffic etch. Perfect to spend a few days away from it all

The cottage was perfect. Well kitted out and Sparkling clean. Set in behind the beautiful castle gar
The cottage has been purpose built for holiday let's and is well set out with a wet room to off load golf shoes or gum boots. 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms one with a bath to settle into after a day on one of the many golf courses nearby. The castle grounds and walled garden are definitely worth walking around. Anna and George were wonderful hosts. Inviting us into their beautiful historic home and sharing some of its history with us. Aberlady is walking distance to the cottage and has a couple of pubs and a shop. Gullane has some great places to eat a butcher deli and small CO OP. No need to venture far away. Beautiful beach walk across the board walk. Fallow deer in the paddock outside the sitting room. Family of Hare on the drivewy. Open fire to cosy up to and read book in front of. We would thoroughly recommend it and will be back. Not for those who cannot live without wifi. It is there but the walls are so thick it can be a bit intermttent.

Feeling like one of the Royals
We have spent three days in the wonderful Cottage. It was well equipped and everything (heating, kitchen utensils etc.) worked well. You can park your car directly in front of the cottage. The view from the windows in the living room is magnificent. The cottage is located in the castle park of the very friendly owners Mr and Mrs Hope. Both gave us a warm welcome and encouraged us to take a look around and enjoy the castle grounds with its impressive fruit and rose gardens, meadows and pond. The cottage is a good starting point for trips to Edinburgh and there is a supermarket about 10 minutes away by car. We highly recommend the house and its owners!
