Choose one of two modes of transport to get to the waterfalls. Sign up for a horse ride, which is the most time efficient way to get through the forest. Let the horse guide the way while you enjoy the scenery and spot native plants such as the cigua blanca or the royal palm. Expect a fee for this trip, as you will require a guide. Guides will carry your bags, take pictures for you and those who speak English may provide information on the landscape. Be sure to leave a generous tip.
Adventurous travelers can strap on some good hiking boots and trek to the waterfalls. The walk can be muddy and steep in places. The challenging hike only makes the view and cold beer at the top of the waterfalls more rewarding.

Tours provide transportation to the horse ranch where the waterfall trail begins. Transporters charge fees and are likely to ask for a tip. Persistent locals offering horses and guides may hassle travelers venturing without a tour group just say a firm “no” and they’ll leave you alone.
