We enjoyed the easy and comfortable outdoor living with the outdoor kitchens, large dining table, and lounging chairs. Nice pool. The roof top is a wonderful space too. "We had a wonderful stay at this house for 6 nights. The pool is awesome with nice views and the house nice with AC in all bedrooms. We enjoyed breakfast in the outdoor covered area every morning. Bathrooms have been updated. The hostess was very welcoming and left us a basket with fruit, bottles of water and a bottle of Prosecco. This was very much appreciated since we arrived late and did not have time to go the supermarket. We would definitely come back again."

"Full of character (with a museum in the basement). Close to restaurants and other sights (the cathedral/museums etc...). Self catering in rooms is basic - better to eat out. About 120 Euro taxi ride from Catania airport. Reception is not 24/7 so arriving out of hours needs some advance planning. Reception staff are very helpful. Ortigia itself is tiny and you can walk everywhere. Don't forget your afternoon siestas. "

"The house is spacious and comfortable, situated in a quiet but convenient area. Avola is 5 minutes away, the motorway linking Messina, Catania, Siracusa and Gela is also a few minutes drive from the house.A car is essential. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. If we had a problem they responded immediately. As for this area of Sicily there is lots to do. Beach lovers are well catered for and there are plenty of possibilities for hikers. "The owners are nice and welcoming and the pool is very nice. They use their son and/or Google translate for interacting with non-Italian speakers. The place is generally quiet expect after sunset when people play paddle ball in the adjacent courts. There are three ACs, one in each bedroom. "Host, Salvos, was a real asset. We had a dreadful start to our holiday with a five hour flight delay and as a result our car hire vehicles were rented out to others. Salvos helped us - a party of eight - get to the villa. Nothing was too much trouble. He loaned us his car so we could do a supermarket shop. He was the perfect host. "We enjoyed our stay. Not sure it is a 5 star hotel but definitely 4! The room had high ceilings and a tall window looking on to a courtyard. The bed was comfortable. Everything to Ortigia was within walking distance. The roof top patio was a lovely addition and we enjoyed reading and soaking up some sun .. in November which was lovely. The staff were friendly at reception and the breakfast was decent.. particularly enjoyed the coffee. The one thing that we found rather cheap for a 5 star hotel is the minibar offers water complimentary on the first day but after that there is a charge. When a reputable guidebook strongly says don’t drink the water particularly in Siracusa, due to old pipes… ( there definitely was hard water at this hotel with some iron) then it would have been nice to have had water each day.. included!! "

"We loved our 2-night stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Politi in Syracuse! The property is very historic, having been established in 1862, and it is literally built adjacent to one of the archeological sites that Syracuse is known for. The staff was so welcoming and helpful, the Winston Churchill Bar was charming (and they have a daily happy hour with complimentary appetizers), and the breakfast buffet offered a nice variety of choices. There's a large, very well-maintained outdoor pool and deck area, which was a highlight of my visit. The room was very comfortable and well appointed in terms of linens, a refrigerator/mini bar, plenty of electrical outlets, and a functional window. I wish there had been conditioner in the shower, along with shampoo and body wash, but other than that, our stay was excellent."

"Nice hotel. Comfortable and clean. Great staff. WiFi is not good. I selected this hotel because it advertised high-speed internet which I needed for a business meeting. It was terrible- I could not open some necessary pages. I had Zoom with no camera to reduce bandwidth and the transmission was still “garbled” both ways. "
