During the summer months enjoy swimming or sunbathing on your own private beach as the eagles soar overhead. If boating is more your style, bring you boat for days of tubing and skiing on beautiful Lake Wabana or one of the neighboring connected lakes, Bluewater or Trout. For a cool taste of north woods history, check out the Joyce Estate on Trout Lake. ATV trails abound in Itasca County with over 200 miles of dedicated trails. Itasca County has thousands of acres of federal, state, county, and forest land also available for riding. Check visitgrandrapids.com for details and maps. In addition, many county and city streets are open to ATV/OHV use allowing you to access these trails directly from the Little Red Cabin!
Of course, a lake this beautiful should be a fantastic fishing destination and Lake Wabana certainly doesn’t disappoint! Bring you boat and enjoy great fishing for bass, walleye, and northern pike. If you don’t have your own fishing boat, they are available for rent just down the shore at Murphy’s Landing Resort. Don’t let the winter weather stop your fishing, as Lake Wabana is one of the premier ice fishing lakes in northern Minnesota!
Ice fishing isn’t the only winter activity to enjoy while at the Little Red Cabin. There are over 600 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in Itasca County! There are numerous snowmobile clubs in the Grand Rapids area that provide information about trails and help maintain them. Visit the Itasca County website for maps, trail information, and club support. Snowmobiles are also available to rent locally at R&R rentals in Grand Rapids.
If you find yourself in need of some outdoor physical activity in the middle of winter, Itasca County offers 19 groomed cross country skiing trails totaling over 125 miles! These trails are well maintained, and Nordic skiing is a very popular activity in the Grand Rapids area with several local clubs and organizations available to provide additional information. Snowshoeing is another popular winter activity in the area with thousands of acres of public land and several dedicated trails available for use.
