The picturesque shores of this tranquil bay provide a great opportunity to escape the crowds and jump in the crystal clear water for surfing or swimming.

Visit this tranquil stretch of coast on the right day and you may have the whole beach to yourself. Guana Bay Beach is a rare slice of secluded coast that is seldom frequented by locals or tourists, despite its picturesque appearance, excellent surf conditions and beautiful views.

Arrive at the beach before dawn to see a breathtaking sunrise, pack a picnic breakfast and then enjoy the serenity at one of St. Maarten’s best-kept secrets.Plan ahead for a relaxing day on the beach. Bring towels, an umbrella for shade and plenty of food and drinks, as there are no facilities on the beach. A small convenience store on the way to Guana Bay sells all you need for a hot day on the beach.

Take a stroll along the beach to fully appreciate its beauty. The beach stretches for more than 1,500 feet (500 meters) and is particularly wide. At the southern end you’ll reach Guana Bay Point, offering excellent views across the Caribbean Sea. On a clear day you’ll be able to see the French island of St. Barthelemy, about 10 miles (15 kilometers) away.

Experienced swimmers will love the conditions at Guana Bay. The Atlantic Ocean provides excellent swells so Guana Bay is a popular destination for diehard surfers. Windsurfing and snorkeling are also possible at Guana Bay, and equipment can be rented in Philipsburg. Children and inexperienced swimmers should remain close to shore since strong currents are active in the area.

Guana Bay is located just 2 miles (3 kilometers) from Philipsburg on the Sint Maarten side of the island. It can be reached on foot by climbing from the road over a small hill or it takes just a few minutes by car from town. When parking your car in the free parking area, be sure to take any valuables out of the vehicle since there is no security in the area.
