"We had a wonderful stay at Villa Hakone Stage. The Villa itself is quite spacious (we had a family of three staying) - a welcome change from the cramped living conditions in Tokyo. "The owner is not kind or friendly, I had to wait in rain around 40 minutes before a kind neighbor arrived and helped, no bed is ok but tatami and everything is short, I’m 5’8 only and I had to try sleeping in half moon position, no bathroom attached bed room, at night time you have to go down into a very steep stairs which is dangerous, no taxi can enter the premise and will not come to get you. "We had a very brief stay and it was clean, comfortable and as described on the website. Very happy. About 8-10 min walk from train station, beautiful walk over the footbridge. Only issue is lack of restaurants after 19:00 and we never received our code to check in to the room-luckily staff was onsite to quickly assist!"

"Amazing hotel with stunning views of Lake Ashi. All-inclusive resort style, with Breakfast and dinner buffet included. Onsen with indoor and open air pools, all necessary toiletries provided, toothbrush/toothpaste, razors, q tips, combs, amazing skin care products! The Hakone Ropeway is just a 3-5 minute walk. "What an incredible gem! We had a wonderful and memorable experience. Luggage drop off before check-in and then check-in itself was seamless (we arrived early and we just followed the instructions at the front entrance to label our bags and place inside the doors, and when we came back the bags were already in our room). Staff is very friendly and helpful. We were able to select our onsen times (one evening and one morning bath) at check-in and as they had availability, we were lucky and were able to do a third one! The facilities themselves are great! All the onsens were fantastic, and it's nice they are all private. Highly recommend the traditional dinner option, it was delicious, well worth it, and a highlight of our trip. The breakfast was lovely. Definitely our favourite stay and would love to come back again! P.s- if getting off at Gora station, yep that is one steep hill to climb to the ryokan! We had carry-on size backpacks and I'm still happy we took the cable car two stops further as per the instructions we received from the ryokan even though it was busy and a bit of a wait (or with more luggage the taxi is likely we'll worth it. It's really not that far, 15ish min, but quite the hill!). The ryokan was also very prompt in responding to my messages prior to arrival, and that was much appreciated. Ajisai Onsen Ryokan thanks for the wonderful stay!"

"I loved my stay at Hakone Airu. It was peaceful, quiet and the staff were able to speak English. The facility was very tourist friendly. I absolutely loved the private onsen and being able to dip in and out whenever we liked. The lounge space next to the private onsen is such a bonus. The bathroom and shower were very clean as well. The only slight discomfort was the fact the shower is exposed to the outside so can be very cold when you initially step in the shower during winter time. "
