Cannery Cabin, 2 Beaches, wildlife, kayaks, bear viewing, glacier experience!

Welcome to Between Beaches, we are open year-round! At this exceptional location, you can watch the sunrise on one beach and set over the other. Our unique, handcrafted beach cabins and Beach House (VRBO listing numbers 993127, 661493, 449876, 1587179,1620934, and 2073319 ), are located on MacDonald Spit, a scenic water ride from Homer through beautiful Kachemak Bay State Park. Our cabins are only steps away from sandy beaches where otters play & eagles soar. The Cannery Cabin is surrounded by spruce and alder trees, offers spectacular views of the bays, islands, and snow-capped mountains without standing in their shade. Built by a lifelong Alaskan, this cabin faces Kachemak Bay and glows in the evening sunsets. Included in your stay are Necky kayaks, rowboats, BBQ with gas, a hammock, clam rakes and buckets, and more. Inside this cozy cabin, you will find a fully equipped kitchenette, full-size bed and a day bed, full linens, a flushing toilet, and electric heat. Outdoor artistic shower next to the cabin, and access to the owner's wood-fired hot tub and sauna when available. WIFI from your beach chairs and inside the art studio/gallery, always open. There is excellent cell reception throughout the property. Choose from a variety of activities, kayaking, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, beachcombing, tide pooling, birding, and more. The wood-fired hot tub and sauna are always available, there is plenty of wood an ax, and a chopping block for your use. Whether you come to relax or play, enjoy an evening beach fire as the sunsets. Whale watch from your pillow and fall asleep to the sound of the surf. During your stay, you may visit our art gallery and enjoy art insulations throughout the property. Latitude and Longitude for mariners: 59.47635 -151.58977
Experience Alaska like never before!
*Winter rates are due to our cabins being "dry". In Alaska, this means no running water. We provide unlimited mountain spring water and an outhouse, but no shower or flushing toilet. Baña (sauna) and hot tub are also available.*

Please note the water taxi fee is not included.

Peaceful Escape
We stayed at Between Beaches for 3 nights as an anniversary visit to Alaska. Our stay was wonderful. Excellent communication with VRBO owner & manager. Wildlife viewing, jellyfish floating, shell searching and so much more. We highly recommend this private, charming cottage VRBO opportunity. Tip to out of season travelers, bring your own food; not many businesses or restaurants are open in Seldovia during Oct-April.

Between Beaches is the place to be
Everything a stay cation should be and so much more. The views are spectacular and the kayaks, hot tub, sauna are just a huge plus. Campfires on the beach and scoping out the tide pools are the best. Kristi is an amazing host and couldn’t say enough about the hospitality and care they put into this diamond in the ruff. Thanks again for everything. We will be back over and over again.

Breathtaking views!
The cabins and property were amazing! The rustic cozy cabins were nestled in trees that faced the ocean on one side and a bay on the other side. The bay side view resembled a mountain lake. Kristi is truly a wonderful host! We spent a great deal of time talking with Kristi in her art studio and looking at her gifted artwork. We took Hans Peterson’s Halibut Charter Adventures and caught huge Halibuts that we were able to have Seldovia Fishing Alaska ship the fish to our home! The best moments spent at the cabins were walks on the beaches, bonfires while watching sea otters go by and spotting a whale while fishing for Halibut. Thank you so much Kristi!!!

Favorite getaway in Alaska
Details! Everything has been thought of at Between Beaches. From firewood to spices for your food, BB has everything you need. The cabins are exquisite and are the perfect getaway. You can hike on two different beaches, sauna, hot tub, beach comb, hunt for berries, fish, tide-pool, kayak...the list goes on. Do yourself a favor and book 1-2 nights more than you planned because you will not want to leave.

One of the most special places in the world....
I stayed in one of Kristi's wonderful Cabins for 3 nights this Fall. If you like a clean and comfortable cabin, this is the place for you. If you crave nature, wildlife, relaxation and escape, this is the cabin for you. If you want a chance to explore tide pools and take in some of the most special scenery in Alaska, this is definitely the place for you. Take a moment during your stay to get to know Kristi, the owner, too. Her love for her land and the wildlife there will add depth to your trip. I look forward to returning to Between Beaches!

Beyond expectations - the cabin and location make this the quintessential Alaskan getaway!
A beautiful studio-style Alaskan cabin that is laid out perfectly and has all the amenities of a hotel room. Hot shower, flush toilet, kitchenette with sink, microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, stovetop, and a bbq outside. Bed and linens were comfy and our 4 year old was perfectly happy on the cot supplied with real bed linens. The highlight of this joint is the view directly from the cabin and its location on the spit. You are surrounded by beach, ocean, and mountains. If it's windy on one side of the spit, chances are it's calm on the other. We had our morning coffee on one side and evening cocktails on the other. So many little spots outside to read or rock in a hammock. Super clean and quiet. Boat taxi from Homer was short and easy. When we left they picked us up right in front of the cabin. They coordinate with Between Beaches and make it really easy. Kristi has fresh fish for sale when we got there. She hauled all our luggage up the beach. This place is great...I just hope it's available to book the next time we want to escape in Kachemak bay!

Very comfortable and quiet! We felt like we were the only ones on the beach!
Outstanding get away, just what we needed! Kristi and her son Lochlan made our stay even more enjoyable. We dug clams and made a seafood chowder, watched the bald eagles argue over some fish on the beach in front of our cabin. We loved sitting by the campfire on the beach during our evenings. Lochlan keep us supplied all the firewood we needed. Although we were too busy to kayak they were readily available for us.Time flew by and we really didn’t want to leave. Although we were able to have the fishing charter pick us up at the Seldovia pier I wouldn’t plan to do any trips while there, just too out of the way to do. But still a great stay! Definitely a (do it again vacation.) Thank you Kristi

Well appointed, cozy and rustic cabin in a spectacular setting with loads of bald eagles!
Kristi was an excellent host, providing just the right conveniences but still keeping the cabins rustic. She is also a commercial salmon fisherman and makes the freshest possible, most amazing fish available during your stay. The cabins sit literally between two beaches, nestled in the fir trees and the views are spectacular on each side. All three cabins have their own gas grill, picnic table, adirondack chairs down on the Kachemak Bay side and even firewood waiting for you to build a fire right on the beach, should you choose. There is a wood fired sauna in its own tiny cabinet and a nearby outdoor hot tub available as well, though you’ll have to plan ahead and start the fire yourself in the wood stove a good 30 or more minutes prior to using the sauna, probably longer for the hot tub. There are numerous gorgeous hikes within walking distance for the intermediate or advanced hiker, plus tide pools to explore and long walks on the beach if hiking isn’t your thing. Kristi provides double and single kayaks of excellent quality and there are plenty to go around. The Kasitsna Bay side is protected (calm) and has spectacular scenery, including pristine coves with snow capped peaks in the background. Most unusual though, is that there are dozens of bald eagles relatively used to people, as they fully take advantage of the extras after some of the salmon is fileted. This makes for AMAZING photo ops, even for a lousy photographer like me!😄 You need to take a water taxi from Homer to get to the cabins, with Mako or Ashore Water Taxi, and they drop you and your luggage right on the beach. Be sure to buy groceries for the duration of your stay. Coffee, powdered creamer, sugar, salt, pepper, lemon pepper, dill, onion powder, and garlic were provided (perfect for grilling your salmon). The water running in the cabins is fresh cold mountain spring water and tastes amazing! I would recommend bringing some instant cocoa to have after any chilly outings and a bottle of wine to share at your beach fire for a truly relaxing, one of a kind vacation.

Magical Cabin
My stay at the Cannery Cabin was magical! Kristi's art work is throughout the cabin. She has put special touches throughout. The cabin sits right on the ocean and out the back door is the bay. I enjoyed long walks on the beach and finding treasures from the ocean. Kristi had dry wood so I had a fire on the beach in the evening. I enjoyed watching the eagles, loons and otters. The cabin and area seems enchanted...it was the best part of my week long solo trip in Alaska to relax. I loved every moment. Kristi ensures that your stay will be everything you want it to be!

What an enchanting cottage!
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your cabin. I had a marvelous trip for my first time in Alaska and staying in your place made it extra special! Being able to walk around on the beaches looking for sand dollars and paddling a kayak around the bay was wonderful. Cooking dinner and having tea together in your cute, beautiful place really made it into an amazing experience.

Tranquil Perfection
My husband, 13-year-old son, and I stayed in the Cannery Cabin the first week in August, and our stay was one of the highlights of our two-week trip to Alaska. The cabin, while small, is beautifully appointed, clearly designed with the eye of an artist, as Kristi is. We were totally comfortable. Kristi and the folks working with her provided a balance of privacy and attentiveness. We took her advice to rent kayaks from Mako's Water Taxi in Homer. What a treat to be sandwiched on the spit between the bay and the gentle inlet. I would stay again in a heart beat and hope we get to some day.

Fabulous Cabin in a lovely location!
Can't say enough good things about this place and we can't wait to return. We love Seldovia and Jakalof Bay but this was our first experience on the Macdonald Spit. We are also in love with the spit now too!! The cabin is nestled amongst some trees making it feel very secluded while being just steps from the beach. Very clean and well equipped for a comfortable stay with plenty of extras including a picnic table, rowboat, and firepit. We enjoyed a long day of exlporing and tide pooling followed by a nice evening on the beach watching whales breaching.

Intimate Alaskan Serenity
This was our second visit and possibly more enjoyable than the last. Our first trip was filled with spectacular tide-pooling and eagle watching; this last trip was filled with that and more...many evenings of darkened skies and waters when whales migrated through, their spouts filling the horizon like geysers in an oceanic basin, catching the light in an amazing array. We counted 80-100 spouts in two hours. Finback Whales and later humpback whales filled the bay. Eagles, varied thrushes, hermit thrushes, kingfishers and harlequin ducks surrounded the area. Our little cabin was perfectly located for both bays and an artistic setting beyond measure. Kristi's art is fabulous! As an artist, I appreciate her creativity and talent. Clamming and fishing were part of each day...eating fresh salmon and clams was a delight. Between Beaches is a wonderful place, artfully composed to provide comfort and a place to access spectacular wildness. We hope to return again next year!

Beautiful cabin and place
This place is great! The pictures are beautiful, but they don't even do it justice. It's more beautiful in real life. We stayed in the Cannery Cabin. It's lovely. It has everything you need: gas stove, small refrigerator, sink, dishes, pots and pans, LTE connection, comfy bed, nice shower with great hot water, toilet, and wonderful windows that display the beach and brilliant sunsets right outside your cabin. It's clean and so pretty! Kristi said that the glass in the windows came from an old historic cannery that was torn down, so they have that thick, elegant look. You can walk along the spit to the end where there's a big rocky formation that is really pretty and you can climb it and have great views from higher. All the views are amazing, all along the beaches, from the cabin, everywhere is beautiful. We took the row boat out, too. Great on the calm bay. Tons of eagles overhead all the time. We also saw otters and seals in the water, ever from inside the cabin. If you want to go into Seldovia, I think the only way is to call a taxi and arrange it that way, as there are no cars on the spit, and no bicycles, (unless you bring your own.) It's about 7 miles to town. We didn't go in, had fun playing on the beaches, etc. Thank you, Kristi! Love your place.
