Kerry Park

Seattle really is a camera-friendly city, with sky-scraping architecture and a waterfront location set against the magnificent Mount Rainer in the distance, and Kerry Park is the perfect location for photographers of all ages and abilities to come and capture this visually stunning city in all its glory.The park itself is pleasant and compact (just 4,000 square metres), located just 15 minutes outside the city centre on Queen Anne Hill. You’ll find parents pushing buggies and people out walking their dogs and there are plenty of benches on which to sit down and read a book. For lovers of art, there’s a striking modern sculpture called Changing From, and if you’ve got the kids in tow then there’s also a playground to keep them happy for a while.The real draw, however, are the mesmerising views that the parks hillside location afford it across the Emerald City. Both amateur and professional photographers line up as the sun sets to capture the perfect shot of the iconic Space Needle set against the fast-changing Seattle sky. If you’re lucky enough to visit the park on a clear day you’ll see the imposing Mount Rainer volcano on the horizon. As night closes, the city’s countless lights and brightly lit boats shimmer against the waters of Puget Sound.If you’d like a closer view of the city’s sights then the park also has a number of telescopes lining the railings which you can use for the price of a coin or two. Kerry Park is set in a quiet, older neighbourhood, perfect for a tranquil afternoon stroll. There’s not much parking however, so a taxi or bus from the city is your best option to get there.
