Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art aims to collect and exhibit new works that reflect the present time. The excellent facility has one of the largest collections of media art in Finland. Kiasma is one of the three museums that make up the Finnish National Gallery. The other facilities are Ateneum and Sinebrychoff Art Museum. The Finnish National Gallery’s collection of contemporary artworks was established in the late 20th century.

New York-based American architect Steven Holl designed the Kiasma building. Notice the curved, intertwining shape of Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, believed to reflect the geometry of the city. The building is a mosaic of geometric shapes, sharp angles and curves.

Walk to Ateneum from Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in less than 10 minutes. The Ateneum has one of the largest collections of classical art in Finland. Study Finnish artworks dating from the 18th-century rococo portraiture movement to 20th century experimental pieces. This museum also features works by international artists, such as Vincent van Gogh.

Find Sinebrychoff Art Museum about a mile (1.6 kilometers) from Kiasma. This branch of the Finnish National Gallery features European artworks from the 14th to the 19th centuries. Admire paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, glassware and silverware from many renowned European artists, including Alexander Roslin and Jusepe de Ribera.

Visit Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art for free on the first Friday of every month. This excellent museum is open Tuesday to Sunday year-round, excluding public and religious holidays. Discounted admission rates apply for concession holders and large groups. Kiasma is located in the heart of Helsinki, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) from Helsinki Airport.
