La Fossa Beach (Playa la Fossa) is among the most popular beaches in Calpe. The clean and wide sweep of sand stretches for almost 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) between two headlands. Lifeguards patrol the beach, there are changing facilities and sun umbrellas and loungers are available to rent. The crystalline Balearic Sea glistens in the sunshine and encourages you take an invigorating swim. Join in a game of pick-up beach soccer and let kids have fun at the playground.
Take part in a classic Calpe pastime by strolling up and down the meandering promenade. It fills up late in the afternoon with people eager to catch a glimpse of the setting sun casting a magical light upon Calpe Rock. Pause to observe talented artists creating fascinating sand castles and sculptures. Bars and restaurants with outdoor seating areas line the esplanade and serve meals inspired by Mediterranean flavors.
At the southern end of the bay is Mirador de Punta Fossa, a lookout with a superb view of the entire beach. From here you can follow a trail that snakes up rugged hillsides to the top of the 1,090-feet (332-meter) tall Peñón de Ifach. It takes about an hour to reach the pinnacle and your reward is one of the finest panoramas of the Costa Blanca. Marvel at a shoreline of pretty coves, gaze over the rolling hills of the Province of Alicante and spot the island of Ibiza.
La Fossa Beach is about a 15-minute drive from Calpe’s Old Town. Parking is available a short walk from the beach. A tourist train also stops here.
