La Jolla Cove

Up-market shopping, gourmet dining and inviting beaches await in “Jewel City”.

Just north of San Diego’s city centre lies the affluent neighbourhood of La Jolla and conveniently located in the middle of this charming, hillside community is the beautiful, sheltered beach of La Jolla Cove. This small, picture-perfect bay sits protected by high sandstone cliffs on either side and is a safe and popular place for families to come and enjoy a day on the beach. Scripps Park offers a striking elevated view of the town from its clifftop walkway and make sure to keep an eye out for the sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks below too.The town itself is full of luxury shops, glamourous people and expensive houses along the cliffs – this is really a place where the great and the good come to live. While the opulent goods on offer will be out of reach for many budgets, you can still enjoy some window-shopping among the beautifully-appointed boutiques of Prospect Street, La Jolla Boulevard and Girard Avenue. There are also plenty of excellent fine art galleries to browse, as well as numerous cafés to choose from when you need a break from exploring. Gastronomic delights with gorgeous views can be savoured in one of the exclusive top-quality restaurants on the seafront, but be sure to reserve your table well in advance, as they are much sought after.Lovers of water sports will find plenty to bring them joy here, with scuba-diving, snorkelling and kayaking all catered for. Golf fans can walk the same fairways and greens as Tiger Woods with a visit to Torrey Pines – a top-class tournament golf course, just 10-minutes' drive away.La Jolla Cove is 24 kilometres north of San Diego. You can get here on the city's Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus service – number 30 goes from central San Diego to La Jolla Village Square. Alternatively, you could rent a car either way, the best way to enjoy the delights of this exclusive seaside settlement once you arrive, is on foot.

Nice town on the coast. Good amenities and food. Next time would take a wetsuit and try a swim in the cove
