Leeds Grand Theatre

The Gothic features of this tiered theatre make a glorious setting for the diverse array of plays, music gigs and stand-up acts that are performed on its stage.

A historic venue in the heart of the city, the Leeds Grand Theatre offers an eclectic program of opera, ballet and musicals. Dating back to the late 19th century, the landmark stands out with its redbrick façade covered in Romanesque and Scottish baronial designs. Attend a performance in the majestic setting of the theater’s 1,550-seater auditorium.

Choose from the selection of West End musicals and dramatic plays. Among the popular shows to have played on this stage are Wicked, Jersey Boys and The Full Monty. Watch a stand-up comedy act or go to a music concert. Opera North and Northern Ballet regularly put on shows in this resplendent venue.

Enjoy the excellent acoustics, as the sound of the instruments reverberate around the site’s Gothic interior. Admire the columns and fan-vaulting from your seat in the main gallery or one of the elegant balconies. The theater was designed by architect George Corson and built in 1878.

Get involved in the annual Summer Festival, which includes art activities for those under the age of 18. Order drinks and get snacks in the bars scattered around the theater. For dinner, check out the cafés, bars and restaurants lining the adjacent streets.

Purchase tickets from the box office, which is open Monday through Saturday from morning until evening. The main door of the auditorium opens 1 hour before the show starts. Note that ticket prices vary depending on the performance and seats. The theater’s gift vouchers make for an ideal birthday present.

Leeds Grand Theatre is located just south of Lovell Park, right in the center of the city. Take a bus to one of the stops beside the theater or walk northeast from Leeds railway station for 15 minutes. Go to some of the nearby attractions, such as City Varieties Music Hall, Victoria Gate Casino and Leeds City Museum.
