This quiet retreat boasts a friendly community, and is the perfect place to set up base for a relaxing holiday and to escape from the daily grind. Head to Nelson Bay for a day of fun. As the largest town in the Port Stephens region, Nelson Bay is a vibrant and lively seaside escape for families and tourists alike. With plenty of fun activities and experiences on offer, including dolphin watching cruises departing from the Marina all year-round and whale watching cruises from May to November. Cycling the Bartlett bikeway is a fantastic way to explore the stunning waterfront, stretching for 5 kilometres and finishing up near the heritage-listed Nelson Head lighthouse, built in 1875. Just a 2.5 hour drive north from Sydney and 34 kilometres from Newcastle Airport, Nelson Bay is an absolute must-do when it comes to seaside escapes.
For some stunning views, make sure you visit Anna Bay, which also rests within the Port Stephens region. In the heart of Anna Bay, you'll find Birubi beach which boasts a stunning expanse of sand and sea to explore; go swimming, dip your toes in the sea, or forage for sea glass, this beach is full of wonders. Birubi Beach acts as an access point to the Worimi Conservation Lands for those with 4-wheel drive vehicles with a WCL beach vehicle permit. If the water isn't your speed, not to worry as there's plenty of other experiences to enjoy nearby. The nearby Irukandji aquarium is an interactive and unique marine conservation where guests can experience sharks, sting rays, and a variety of other sea creatures in their natural habitat and can even hop in the water with them.
