Ultra-modern Pier Head Ferry Terminal stands before the graceful heritage buildings of the Liverpool waterfront as a symbol of the docks’ revitalization and renewal. Take a river cruise then explore the many attractions that line the waterfront, such as the Tate Liverpool, the Museum of Liverpool and The Beatles Story museum.
Opened in 2009, the ferry terminal provides a striking contrast to the “Three Graces of Liverpool” that sit impressively in the background. The Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building are stunning displays of early 20th-century architecture and are an integral part of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Maritime Mercantile City.
Jump on a cruise at the Pier Head Ferry Terminal and enjoy the stunning views of Liverpool from the River Mersey. Then take a stroll south along the riverfront to find some of the city’s best attractions. At neighboring Canning Dock, visit the stunning Museum of Liverpool to take a tour through the history of the city. Just behind is the Open Eye Gallery, one of the U.K.’s first artistic spaces dedicated to photography and the media.
Continue a little further south and cross the footbridge to Albert Dock where you’ll find the Tate Liverpool, the International Slavery Museum and a great range of shops, restaurants and bars. Right next to the Albert Dock Visitor Centre is the ever-popular The Beatles Story exhibition. Fans of The Fab Four will love the replica models of some of the bands favorite Liverpool haunts, the rare collection of band photos in The Beatles Hidden Gallery and the award-winning Fab4D cinema experience. Younger Beatles fans will also enjoy the giant piano and interactive screens in the Discovery Zone.
All along the waterfront and surrounding docks are cafés, restaurants, bars and hotels. The ferry terminal’s rooftop restaurant offers particularly good views over the river.
Tickets for The Beatles Story and for ferry trips can be purchased online or at the terminal. The waterside location is a short walk from the city center where several bus and train stations are located.
