Lucaya Beach is one of the liveliest beaches in the Bahamas. Stretching for acres, this sandy beach is a scenic place to enjoy long walks along the coast. Participate in exciting watersports that range from parasailing to snorkeling or relax with a cool drink at one of the lively bars lining the beach.
Located across from the famous Port Lucaya Marketplace, the beach is a popular landing point for cruise ship passengers. Browse the market’s more than 60 permanent retail shops and select from a dozen restaurants for meals and drinks. On peak days you might find over 100 straw vendors and other artisans selling authentic Bahamian souvenirs.
Expect a bustling atmosphere and plenty of tourist-oriented activities at the market and along the beach, with vendors offering to braid your hair or arrange excursions. With plenty of bars and restaurants along the sands, the beach is perfect for travelers looking to socialize.
The beach connects to neighboring Coral and Silver Point beaches, making it a favorite spot for runners and walkers seeking an uninterrupted stretch of coastline. Jog up to 2 miles (3 kilometers) and then return for a healthy morning workout. Go for a swim in the refreshingly cool, clear waters off the coast. You’ll find a number of shops along the beach where you can rent snorkeling gear, kayaks or banana boats.
You’ll also find the UNEXSO (Underwater Explorers Society) dive center within walking distance of the beach. Sign up for activities geared toward both experienced and non-experienced divers. Learn how to dive or try one of the center’s memorable “swim with the dolphins” experiences in a protected lagoon. Purchase a day pass at one of the resort hotels to use pools and other amenities.
Lucaya Beach is located in Lucaya, just south of the center of Freeport. Find it east of Silver Point Beach across from the Port Lucaya hotels.
