Buy tickets at least one day in advance. If you want to go to the summit you'll need a permit weeks in advance.
Book cable car tickets ahead, we didn’t get to the top.
Expensive for cable car unless you're a local. Got to do it though .
Mount Teide is spectacular, however note the parking near the cable car is terrible, they usually sell out so book in advance. And if you book the permit to climb to the top, note you have to get the cab;e car first to the start of the trail which is 27 euros each, plus the permit times are stupid - for example I had a permit for 3-5pm, but because of the parking and queues i couldn't get up there until 3.15pm, Then I didn't actually have until 5pm because the last cable car goes down at 4.50pm so I'd be stranded up there! Therefore I planned well in advance, and got all the permits, paid a lot of money and then never reached the summit as I ran out of climbing time. Not happy! Place is amazing tho, I just feel they need to tell you this stuff in advance so you are prepared, but it's not communicated.
Phone ahead or ask hotel to phone ahead to check if the cable car is operating to the peak. It is often closed due to wind speeds or tickets are not available once you get up there.
