Learn about local history and the science behind human existence at this family-friendly museum with interactive activities.

The Museum of Science and History (MOSH) is one of Jacksonville’s most visited museums. Discover a large collection of artifacts and exhibits designed to teach visitors about local history and science. Several permanent exhibits and a temporary display are spread across the building. The site also houses a planetarium. Bring your kids. Most of the museum is aimed toward children and can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Find out what you are made of in The Body Within. Walk through a gaping mouth with large pearly white teeth and follow a path through the rest of the body. The exhibit shows how different parts of the body function. After spending time in the digestive tract, exit through the rear.

Gaze up at skeletons of formidable creatures such as giant whales, dolphins and manatees in the Atlantic Tails exhibit. Put your hands on marine animals in a touch tank and participate in a scavenger hunt by following clues throughout the exhibit.

Understand the importance of conserving energy in the JEA Power Play permanent exhibit. Use interactive touch screens to explore the science behind different types of energy.

Take children under 5 years old to the KidSpace zone to play in a tree house and take part in hands-on learning activities designed for kids.

The museum is open daily from morning until late in the afternoon, although exact times vary depending on the day. Check the official website for opening hours. There is an admission fee, with concessions for seniors, students and children.

The Museum of Science and History is based on the south bank of the St. Johns River in the center of Jacksonville. Take the water taxi across the river to visit nearby attractions such as EverBank Field Stadium, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Jacksonville Landing complex. The Skyway monorail Central Station is just on the other side of the river from the museum and is accessible by bridge and water taxi.
