Running through Singapore’s downtown precinct is one of the premier shopping destinations in Asia. Stretching for over a mile (two kilometers), Orchard Road is home to dozens of shopping centers, pedestrian malls and the flagship stores of some of the world’s best-known brands. The area is popular among locals and tourists, and the street has a number of historic attractions. Whether you visit the Singapore Botanic Garden, watch a movie at the Cineplex or simply spend the day searching for the perfect outfit, there’s something to entertain all ages in and around Orchard Road.
Find a bargain at DFS Galleria, the duty-free mall on the street. This is a popular destination for tourists wanting to buy items without paying sales tax. It is home to some of the biggest names in fashion. Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Hermès all have stores in the shopping center, as well as non-duty-free flagship stores on the street. Giorgio Armani, Dior and Dolce & Gabbana can be found at the ION Orchard, just minutes up the road.
Spend some time at Ngee Ann City, the largest mall on the street. Home to department stores and fashion outlets, Ngee Ann City is also the location of the second largest bookstore in southeast Asia.
Once you’ve finished shopping, you’re in a great spot to experience the modern elements of Singapore culture. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants on the strip. Take the opportunity to eat at one of the food courts in the huge shopping centers. This is surprisingly one of the best places to find authentic local cuisines. Take a break in the famous Singapore Botanic Garden which is just north of Orchard Road.
