Walk past markets, parks and elegant townhouses in this suburban sector for a glimpse into the lives of the bourgeois Parisians.

The 17th Arrondissement is among the most affluent parts of Paris. Haussmann-designed buildings decorate the zone, just north of the Arc de Triomphe. Enjoy the relaxed flow of Parisian life in this majestic suburb with a scenic park and relatively few monuments.

Stroll along the pleasant neighborhood streets and imagine living in an apartment in the townhouses. Stop at restaurants and cafés and watch ordinary Parisians enjoying the day. Purchase baguettes, cheese and other French ingredients from a supermarket or bakery. Discover squares and small parks perfect for picnics.

Among the highlights is the Poncelet Market, which takes place most days from morning until evening. Purchase fruit, vegetables, cheese, wine and seafood.

In the southern part of the arrondissement lies the wonderful Parc Monceau. Amble along rounded pathways with your family. Watch your kids playing on the lawn or chasing the resident ducks, pigeons and squirrels. Inspect various statues surrounding the pretty lake. Intriguing features include the Egyptian pyramid, Chinese fort and Corinthian Pillars standing above the water. The 19th-century artist Claude Monet used the park as inspiration for several of his works.

In the evening, visit the bohemian Batignolles region in the northern section. Select from a range of eccentric bars and restaurants. The region is known for its Algerian cuisine. By day, it has a covered market selling fish and meat.

Learn about the 19th-century architect Georges-Eugène Haussmann, who had a huge effect on the area’s buildings. His plans involved a great range of designs, from traditional to innovative.

Travel to the northwestern part of the city to find this arrondissement. It is just south of the areas of Clichy and Levallois-Perret on the northern outskirts of central Paris. Arrive at one of the RER or metro stations near the zone. Ride the shuttle bus here from Charles de Gaulle Airport or Beauvais-Tille Airport.

Wealthy residents inhabit the 17th Arrondissement for its majestic architecture and range of eclectic bars and cafés.
