Peruse the works of hundreds of Mexican artists, shop for unique items by talented artisans and be part of an art walk.

San José del Cabo Art District is a hub for cultural events, galleries and shopping in Downtown San José del Cabo. Visiting San José del Cabo Art District presents an alternative activity to the beaches, golf and watersports for which the region is famous. Discover creations by national and international artists via exhibitions set inside colorful colonial houses and browse artisan stores for souvenirs that reflect the traditions of Mexico and the Los Cabos region.

Over a dozen galleries line the district’s cobblestone streets. Many of the works on display, such as ceramics, paintings, photographs, sculptures and woodwork, are available to purchase. See pieces by the abstract artist Frank Arnold in addition to examples of Mexican folk art and interior designs. Admire Mata Ortiz pottery, a revival of the indigenous Mogollon ceramic art that originated at the archaeological site of Casas Grandes.

Visit San José del Cabo Art District between November and June for the weekly San José del Cabo Art Walk. Every Thursday evening Alvaro Obregon Street is closed to car traffic, allowing visitors to wander freely from one gallery to another. Gallery owners will often welcome you with a complimentary glass of wine while DJs play melodic beats. You might also get the chance to meet artists and discuss their work with them.

As well as the galleries there are boutiques selling everything from clothing and furniture to handbags, homeware and jewelry. Complete your time here by sampling authentic Mexican and Italian cuisine at low-key restaurants. Or, feast on hearty pub food and sip on craft beers at a microbrewery.

San José del Cabo Art District is a short walk from Plaza Mijares and the city’s historic quarter. Free parking is possible on the downtown streets. The Zona Hotelera is situated 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) to the south.

More information about the galleries of San José del Cabo Art District is available on the district’s official website. Pick up a map of the art walk from the participating galleries.
