The check-in procedure was unusual, bordering on frightening. I had no contact or returned phone calls from the staff at the San Luis Inn Motel. When we arrived at the Inn, the front door was locked and had a sign posted in the window to call the phone number. I did call, but no one answered and no one returned my call after a few minutes. Eventually I walked to the home next to the Inn and inquired if they knew anything about it. The person who answered the door said the Inn had been sold, but she knew how to contact someone. She called someone, and they arrived within several minutes. No apologies, but polite and got us checked in. The room was good, no frills, but clean. The 1st night was very quiet because we were the only people there, no other guests, no staff. The next day a few more guests came in and there were more staff members present. There were 2 operating restaurants within walking distance: an excellent Thai restaurant where we enjoyed dinner 2 nights, and a coffee shop for breakfast.
