Dutch's Retreat - Your Death Valley Base Camp

Our cozy home is located in the Shoshone EcoVillage - home to a Restaurant & Saloon, store, gas station, museum & post office. Nature, historic and vista trails are an easy walk away. We offer a warm mineral spring pool for our guests to enjoy! Enjoy our gorgeous ponds & habitat restoration that provides refuge for the endangered Shoshone Pupfish & Amargosa Vole.

Our cozy home is located 1 mile from the south entrance to Death Valley National Park. It is newly remodeled to accommodate a group of 4. It has one double bed in the bedroom, and a small room for two with a bunkbed. This home is situated in a sweet RV park and campground where friends and family can camp close by. In beautiful surroundings, this home is nestled in a lush desert oasis with a warm spring pool.

With a commitment to protecting our biodiverse ecosystem, we have created numerous trails. Across from the RV park campground is a short path through viewing ponds for the Shoshone Pupfish, once considered extinct. These pools are surrounded by newly created habitat for the endangered Amargosa Vole. We also offer several trails for viewing birds in our backyard of the Shoshone Wetlands, and a 3 mile loop of gorgeous desert vistas.

The Village of Shoshone offers a gas station, gift shop, small store and restaurant. The Shoshone Museum offers exhibits of local history and lore, the rich regional geology and natural history. Come see the Mammoth exhibit! A short walk from the village is a fascinating historical district. The homes carved into the caliche cliffs harken to the mining era of Death Valley.

Please note that we are located in a rural area and are a 1/2 hour from a grocery store. Our little general store does have a few groceries and ready-to-eat food items but if you plan to cook please do your shopping before you arrive to make sure you have what you need for your meals.

Shoshone Desert Experience
An oasis resort in the desert. We packed in activities, hikes, dining and exploration into our seven days in the Amargosa Basin. Had plenty of relaxation too around the sweet RV resort, the warm pool, meeting fellow explorers and enjoying the natural areas. Town of Shoshone was welcoming and friendly. Tecopa is also welcoming and friendly. Our hosts were communicative and provided a comfortable stay. They seem to maintain everything well. Everything was as described. We would go back and stay here again anytime.

A remote destination
The spring fed pool water was amazing and my daughter had a great time. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean. The coffee station had a good selection for the morning. We had a concern, but the management handled it well and I sincerely appreciate their response.

Nice Short Getaway Spot
My family and I stayed here before venturing off to inner parts of Death Valley like Badwater Basin. It's about 56 miles from that area and though it is not the closest hotel or motel within DV National Park, for an overnight stay and the PRICE, it's great. Staff reception was friendly. The wi-fi worked excellently. There's no towers in the area! Bring water and supplies obviously since the local town has a few options nearby and is not open late.

Desert Oasis
This single wide mobile home was very clean with new appliances in the kitchen and a great shower in the bathroom. We enjoyed our 4 day stay in the area and discovered lots of local places to visit as well as making a trip to Death Valley.

Over-priced, low quality
This property is poorly furnished and equipped and incredibly overpriced for what you get. We have stayed in other similar places before (mobile home in the middle of nowhere near a national park) and found those properties to be well-equipped and very comfortable. Unfortunately this property was barely inhabitable and we chose to leave rather than spend a freezing night there. We arrived to find the property was freezing cold (it was in the 30s outside and nearly as cold inside). We turned on the heater and the left side was pumping out cold air while the right side put out hot air. The beds just had threadbare sheets and thin little blankets (not to mention that there were hairs in the bed and the mattresses felt like a pull-out couch). Additionally, the heater is in the living room so even if it was functioning properly the heat would have never made it into the bedrooms which are located down an extremely narrow hallway. The toilet seat felt like an icicle., etc., I won't go on. We were excited about the amenities of the community but unfortunately didn't get to experience them. If you are interested in this location you would be better off just booking one of their camping sites rather than renting this property. You will save a ton of money and be just as comfortable in a tent.

Great, well-located, clean accommodation
Very well-located, clean affordable place. Loved the grounds. 5-minute walk into town, and 30-minute drive to Death Valley. Check-in was easy, and the person working there was friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the hot springs pool too. Would definitely highly recommend!
