Test the pistes at this snowboarder-friendly resort and hike along picturesque mountain trails in summer.
Stratton Mountain is best known for its connection to snowboarding, having been among the earliest resorts to champion the sport in the 1980s. Join other boarders and skiers on the slopes in winter, admire the majestic mountain views and browse the shops at the charming slope-side village.
In winter, activity centers on the Stratton Mountain Resort, located at one of the highest peaks in Southern Vermont. Get fitted with ski equipment and explore the 97 trails, which encompass more than 100 acres (0.5 square kilometers) of glades and more than 600 acres (2.5 square kilometers) of skiable terrain.
Travel to the mountain summit via the Stratton Gondola. From the top, views extend out over the surrounding mountain peaks. Take breaks from mountain exploring to enjoy a warming drink at one of the on-mountain restaurants.
Spend a morning or afternoon wandering the village. Shop for outdoor gear or gifts and book in for a treatment at the day spa. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in the village, look for a bargain at the designer outlet shops in Manchester, about 30 minutes away by car.
During the warmer months, Stratton Mountain attracts hikers. Tackle sections of the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail, both of which traverse the mountain. Cool down at local swimming spots in nearby Emerald Lake State Park or Jamaica State Park. Other summer activities available on or near the mountain include golfing, kayaking and biking.
Schedule in a workout at the Stratton Training and Fitness Center, which is equipped with cardio and weight training machines as well as an indoor saltwater pool. Unwind in the steam room and hot tub.
Stay at one of the hotels in town or rent a private condo. Stratton Mountain Resort has three free parking areas. If you’re not driving, ride the Stratton Jitney from Manhattan. The journey will take about 4 hours. Arrange your visit for winter or spring for snow sports or come here in summer to experience the gorgeous mountain landscapes on foot.
