Takashima Hotel Guide - Hotels with Spa in Takashima, Shiga Prefecture

"My son and I visited Japan in February/March 2025 and stayed in hotels in four cities. Not only was the Hotel Okura Kyoto our favorite hotel in Japan, but it is now one of my favorite hotels worldwide. First, the rooms are impeccably clean and have every imaginable amenity. There is a fantastic amount of storage, and rooms are very quiet. We tried both breakfast restaurants, and loved the extensive western and Japanese options.The location was very useful, and walkable to the main shopping street while in a quieter spot. However, the staff were by far the most wonderful part of our stay. We had some difficulty in Kyoto figuring out transportation options, logistics, and finding things we need - the staff helped us each time with very personalized issues. They also arranged a much better car rental agreement for us when our plans changed. They were even able to help us find the nearest pet store selling rabbit food - every request was met with warmth, kindness and assistance. "

"The room size is huge (especially compared to Tokyo hotels). There were 2 separate beds a couch and room enough to put your luggage. I loved the location and the area. It is walkable to attractions such as Nijo castle and the national garden. Most importantly it’s a short walk to the train station. The common areas are kept very clean and it has a lovely courtyard with a japaniese garden. "

"Overall it is really an excellent hotel. Many of the rooms should be updated, but still they are adequate and spacious. The breakfast area can be busy, but there is a large adjacent room with plenty of space. The hotel staff were great. The onsen has a spacious indoor bath and plenty of washing areas. The outdoor bath is very pleasant, just be careful walking on the stone surfaces. The staff takes good care of the onsen and sauna. The location is good. You can walk to Nagahama JR station and the old town area is just beyond. The lake and the large beautiful next door park and castle is good for walking. There are not many restaurants open at night in central Nagahama, but you can probably find something."
