If you like airplanes, include a visit to Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville, Florida, where planes are restored to their former condition. Many of the aircraft fly in the skies overhead during air shows at the museum. Come and see these historic planes on the ground and possibly in the air.
Among the 45 planes, some are replicas, such as the Sopwith Camel and Fokker Dr.I Triplane. Others, including the DeHaviland Tiger Moth and C-47 Dakota, have been painstakingly restored. Listen to fascinating accounts about many of the aircraft. For example, the C-47 at the museum participated during World War II’s D-Day.
View the United States’ first swept wing fighter jet, the F-86 Sabre, which continues to fly. Other classic aircraft are found in the static collection. Enter the main hangar to get a closer view of a selection of aircraft that originate from many countries, including Germany and Russia.
Tour Matthews Family Vietnam Memorial Hangar for displays of aircraft used during the Vietnam War, including helicopters and aircraft carrier warplanes. In another hangar, the museum often has a restoration project in progress where you can see volunteers reconstruct aircraft to the appearance they had during their active service.
In addition to aircraft, view the memorabilia collection of uniforms, equipment and weapons. Be sure to stop in the gift shop at this accredited US Navy, Air Force and Army approved museum founded in 1977.
Visit the museum at the Space Coast Regional Airport. Reduced admission fees are available for seniors, military personnel, students and children up to 12 years old. Look for discounts sometimes offered on the museum’s website. The museum is open throughout the week but closed on certain holidays.
Come and see aircraft that have had a significant impact on the outcome of many world events. Visit in the spring to be able to watch some of them in flight at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum’s annual air show.
