Since 1939, the prestigious racetrack of Gulfstream Park has been one of the most important horse racing venues in North America. The park is a 1.2-mile (1.9-kilometer) turf racetrack just 15 miles (24 kilometers) north of Miami. Attend a race during the season or visit for one of its three Grade 1 races: the Florida Derby, the Donn Handicap and the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap. Since 2004, the Sunshine Millions Day has been held at Gulfstream Park during January, attracting large crowds to the 16,627-person capacity venue.
Spend a day perched high above the track as you watch some of the finest thoroughbred horses in the nation go head to head. Gulfstream Park features tiered seating in its iconic grandstand. You’ll have a perfect view of the home stretch from wherever you sit. Place a bet on your favorite horse to add excitement to your day.
If you’re feeling particularly lucky, head for the attached Gulfstream Park Casino to try for more winnings. Play slot machines or participate in a variety of card games at the small, but lively casino. Stop at one of the many restaurants within the casino or at the track for a light lunch or visit the bar to celebrate your wins or analyze your losses.
Visit between December and April to find the park alive with the race season. During the remainder of the year, the huge venue doesn’t go to waste. Attend one of the many live concerts hosted at the park or explore the Village, a colorful outdoor dining and shopping precinct immediately adjacent to the park.
Gulfstream Park is located approximately 25 minutes by car from central Miami and can also be reached by public bus. Use the free parking available at the park or valet parking for a small fee. Admission is free of charge and the park can be visited daily.
