Find one of the most secretive beaches in the Garden Route, a secluded, sandy cove with safe swimming spots and ideal waves for long surfing sessions.

Discover the hidden shores of Victoria Bay Beach, just a short journey away from the scenic resort town of Wilderness. With both excellent surfing opportunities and safe tidal pools for children, this beach offers fun in the ocean for all ages. Cozy restaurants and a row of cottages by the beachfront add to the appeal of this quiet and pretty beach.

Teach your children to swim in the sheltered waters here. The shape of the headland around the cove protects the water from dangerous tidal currents, making it one of the safest places to swim in the Western Cape. Play in the tidal pools behind the jetty with your children or splash in the waves by the shallows.

Experienced surfers and beginners alike will enjoy the consistently breaking waves outside Victoria Bay. See how long you can ride the waves, as the point breaks here will run for about 980 feet (300 meters) into shore. Paddle out past the sheltered cove to reach the best of the waves.

Ride a boat from Wilderness and skirt along the coastline to see Victoria Bay Beach from a different angle. Keep your eyes fixed on the water for sightings of southern right whales and bottlenose dolphins.

Take a break from swimming and surfing to have lunch in a café nearby. Stop for a sandwich in one of the beachfront venues, with outdoor and porch seating available, so you can keep enjoying the views while you eat.

Bring your camera for photos of the rugged cliffs that enclose the picturesque bay. Take one of the gentle walking trails near the beach for ocean panoramas from the headland.

Drive west of Wilderness for just 10 minutes to reach the parking area at Victoria Bay Beach. Alternatively, drive east from George for about 8 miles (12 kilometers) to reach the bay. Accommodations by the beach allow for quick access to the ocean, while there are other options in the nearby towns.
