"We had an incredible stay at The Pongwe for our honeymoon. Frank and the entire staff were wonderful and made our stay extra special from start to finish, from the room presentation to a special dinner at the end of our trip and fresh flowers to celebrate our new marriage at every meal. "The hotel was good choice as we had renter car and could go everywhere on the island. It was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The ocean was not the best beach in zanzibar but this is not the hotels fault. "

"Hotel was closed for renovations and they didn’t inform us before we arrived. We had to look for an alternative place to stay at night and Expedia was not helpful either with finding another hotel. I would never recommend this place because of the lack of communication and inconvenience caused! "

"Lovely property in a quiet corner of Stonetown. Great swimming pool. Historic quality of hotel added a charming feel. Most rooms overlook the ocean. The amenities were complete and the room was very comfortable. Spend a little extra to get an outside balcony or verandah. The staff was wonderful and helpful. There are lots of restaurants nearby. I can't speak for the food at the on property restaurant since I had to leave early and skipped the breakfast. I would definitely stay here again on a Stonetown visit. "

"The hotel is an historic site in UNESCO world historic Stonetown. The shopping district and amazing restaurants are in the immediate area. The hotel is full-service and convenient to attractions around the island. It is on the beach and offers a good, full breakfast. The Gelato bar offered delicious, exotic choices. I really loved our stay!"

"Daniela was a fantastic and welcoming host. This historic, well appointed hotel will be a favorite memory and repeat visit. The food was delicious. The coffee and beds were some of the best I've had in Africa. Daniela and I had a great conversations and she arranged a prison island tour for us. It was my second trip to Stone Town and second tour. Last time it wasn't bad but this time it was a better experience. The pilot and your guide this time were far superior to the last prison island excursion. "
