Fish for walleye or bass, go to the water park and venture into one of the few remaining tall-grass prairies in eastern Nebraska.

Zorinsky Lake Park is a 255-acre (103-hectare) reserve with enchanting nature trails and a range of wildlife. At its heart lies the large Zorinsky Lake, on which boating and fishing are popular. Bring the whole family to this picturesque park and explore the tall-grass Bauermeister Prairie.

Bring your kids to have fun in the two playgrounds in the park. Join a game at the baseball diamonds, soccer fields or football field. Cycle on the bicycle trails and meander along the footpaths that run through this scenic park. The grounds also have many benches and shelters where you can have a picnic. Relax with a book in front of the lake and enjoy the stunning vistas.

The children will love the Zorinsky Pool, which features a climbing frame within a water feature. Bring swimsuits and towels and watch them slide into the pool. Stroll along the banks of Boxelder Creek and walk the perimeter of the lake via the Zorinsky Lake Trail. Take a break at the benches along the way. Wander through the tall grass, yellow coneflowers and bee balms of the Bauermeister Prairie.

Drive to the Zorinsky Lake Boat Ramp, where you can launch your boat. Go fishing in the lake for walleye, bass, bluegills and channel catfish, among other species. In winter, the park is known for its ice fishing.

Note that the park takes its name from the late Senator Edward Zorinsky, the first Jewish person elected to statewide office in Nebraska.

Zorinsky Lake Park is between the districts of West Omaha and Millard in the western outskirts of Omaha. Drive west from the heart of town for 12 miles (19 kilometers) to get here in about 20 minutes. Go to some of the other sights in the region, including the Sky Zone Trampoline Park, Oak View Mall and Shadow Ridge Country Club.
