"we spent a night in the hotel so we can start hiking Kumano Kodo early next day. nice hotel, they claim they have the biggest outdoor hot spring pool, but we used smaller family pool, the setting is very like outdoor pool."

"Tried to check out and could not as they did not have staff to take payment. Had to leave to make it to bus in order to catch my train and flight. Has to go to extraordinary lengths to pay them after. Also extremely overpriced for this hotel, would never come back."

The man we assumed was the owner speaks english, is solicitous to a fault and serves a great breakfast including some of the tuna Nachikatsuura is known for. 800 yen taxi ride from JR Kiikatsuura station if you have bags or ten minute walk if you travel light. So you are in town to see the falls and temples? Spend a couple of nights here and give your money to a small local concern. Leave your patio...

"This guesthouse was clean, modern . It had two rooms of tatami bedrooms with tv. There is a living room which has comfortable couches that can be converted into a bed. Nice kitchen, shower, washer. Very clean. Communication with the owner was excellent."

"This is a beautiful resort area with friendly staff (I was directed to a super kind, completely fluent English employee which was a surprise!) and very fun activities to partake in. This resort has the most beautiful coastal views in Japan, from your room (we got a beautiful view of the bay in the Nagisakan-wing of the resort) and from the beautiful cavern-hot springs. I've never been to a hot spring along the Pacific Ocean, let alone one in a huge cave along the cliffside overlooking the ocean!...
