Charming listed historic country house 3 miles from Cheddar Gorge

A few minutes walk from historic Axbridge pubs and 3 miles from Cheddar Gorge and at the foot of the Mendips this quirky house has lots of character and surprises. Originally a farm house this house is now a blend of medieval and Georgian styles with its large windows. flagstones and elegant fireplaces. A formal Dining room seats up to 16, a sunny Sitting Room a Morning Room and a TV/play room means there is lots of flexible space for family and friends to share. This is a great base for those who enjoy the outdoors - walking, climbing, cycling, golf.

Mum’s 90th Birthday
11 of us / 3 generations descended on Axbridge to celebrate my mother’s 90th. What a super weekend! Culminating in a wonderful dinner in the formal dining room which was spectacular. We like to cook - and the Kitchen is large and well equipped for big parties. A lovely setting in a lovely village / area. The host was charming and very accommodating.

We were all 'blown away' by Compton House. So grand, and so welcoming. It was the perfect venue for a special birthday celebration with my family. Lots of space, inside and out. Thank you Patricia, from Stuart, Sally,Tym, Tom, Rae, Louis, and birthday girl Wendy. gi

Perfect
This house is amazing, it’s very old and packed with antiquities. Every amenity we needed. Patricia the host is fabulous in every aspect. Fully equipped kitchen, beautiful bedrooms with en suites, fantastic grounds. Perfect location. It is such a stunning property and quite quirky with creaky stairs and uneven floors. Lovely clean bedding. Huge stunning dining room. It was absolutely perfect for a weekend stay with family and friends and we shall definitely re-visit.

Fascinating house for good times
Had a cracking NY here. Amazing house, you could spend a life time looking at all the furniture, objet d'arts and the history of the house. Grand, perhaps a tad cluttered in the kitchen, but quite and very comfortable beds. Showers are a bit weak, but lovely village and pub 5mins walk from the house. Bet it's super in the summer, with the french doors open on the garden.
