See the inner workings of a historic Tasmanian brewery on a tour of the home of James Boag’s beer, complete with tastings and a visit to a traditional-style pub.

Boag’s Brewery is an icon of Northern Tasmania, its beer poured in nearly every pub in the region. Visit Boag’s Brewery to see the building in which Boag’s beer has been brewed since 1883. Explore the gorgeous 19th-century red-brick building on an informative tour and learn about the alchemy behind one of Tasmania’s most cherished ales. An on-site museum showcases a range of original brewery paraphernalia, dating back over a century.

Begin your visit by entering the Boag’s Centre for Beer Lovers. This quaint red-and-yellow building was constructed in Georgian style in 1826 and has been beautifully restored. Make your way through the historic brewery on a guided tour. Tours last approximately 90 minutes and detail the history of the brewery, from its beginnings with James Boag and his son in 1883 through to the brewery’s expansion in the 21st century. See the brewery in action as you check out the malthouse and industrial brewing equipment.

At the end of the tour, be sure to sample the different beers on offer at a tasting. You might try the brewery’s original draught, European-style pilsner or Australian-style lager. Using pristine Tasmanian waters and expertly selected barley, hops and malts, Boag’s Brewery has a tradition of brewing quality.

Peruse the exhibits on display at the on-site museum. See a collection of historic photographs, antique labels and other brewery paraphernalia. Watch the old Boag’s Brewery television advertisements or stop by the gift shop to pick up Boag’s Brewery merchandise or some gift-wrapped ales.

Take some time to relax in the Boag’s Centre for Beer Lovers, which doubles as a bar and café. Sample local cheeses and wines, have a light lunch or enjoy a tea break. The Brewery Bar and Beer Garden are also available for functions.

Boag’s Brewery is located on the banks of the North Esk River in Launceston. The Boag’s Centre for Beer Lovers, museum and café are free to enter and are open daily. Tours have an additional cost and must be booked in advance. The tours run three times a day, with extra tours in the summer months.
