Costa Mujeres brings together the best features of a vacation on the Mexican shoreline of the Caribbean Sea. Enjoy a village atmosphere, historic ruins, tantalizing Mexican food and beautiful sand, sea and forest. While trips to nearby Cancun for shopping, dining and entertainment are easy, a visit to Costa Mujeres offers a serene setting for a quiet escape from Cancun’s energetic atmosphere.
The name Costa Mujeres translates to Coast of Women, related to the Spanish discovery of idols to the goddess Ixchel in the area in the early 1500s. Today Costa Mujeres welcomes not just women, but also men, families, wedding parties and any other visitors to its pretty coast. Enjoy miles of sandy shore along Playa Mujeres, which stretches from the village past several all-inclusive resorts.
Enjoy ocean views while dining on the beach or visit a variety of international restaurants. Travel to the northern tip of the region for pet-friendly Isla Blanca Beach.
At the southern end of Costa Mujeres, explore the Mayan ruins of El Meco. The archaeological site features a pyramid called El Castillo that may have served as a lighthouse in ancient times.
Golf lovers can play at Playa Mujeres Golf Course, a course designed by Greg Norman.
From Costa Mujeres join a ferry trip to the lovely Isla Mujeres, a few miles east, for a daytrip filled with beach fun and exciting activities. From the sands of Playa Norte at the northern end of the island to interesting rock formations at Garrafon Natural Reef Park at Punta Sur in the south, the island offers intriguing coastline. Visit a turtle sanctuary, pirate hacienda, zip line and varied restaurants. Bring a snorkel and mask to explore MUSA, an underwater sculpture garden at the southern end of the island.
Travel by car to the village of Costa Mujeres from Cancun in about 25 minutes or continue on to larger resorts to the north. The village is about a 40-minute drive north of Cancun International Airport.
