Partake in watersports, play beach volleyball and join boat tours to Isla Mujeres at the entrance to Cancún’s Hotel Zone.

Las Perlas Beach (Playa Las Perlas) is the closest public beach to downtown Cancún and a favorite hangout for locals. A varied offering of water-based pursuits make it a favorite among active beachgoers while the shallow waters attract families with young children. The fine white sand, tall palm trees and sparkling Caribbean Sea of Las Perlas Beach combine to create the quintessential coastal image of the Cancún’s Hotel Zone.

The beach is a designated Blue Flag area, which means it meets strict criteria for environmental management, water quality and safety. Arrive early to beat the crowds and set up for the day on a prime spot of the short stretch of sand. You can take shade from the sun beneath a palapa (thatched umbrella). Lifeguards are on duty during daylight hours.

An area marked by buoys indicates the designated swimming zone. The sea is warm and clear and it’s possible to spot schools of brightly colored fish. Glide across the water on a rented stand-up paddleboard and try bodyboarding in the small waves. Jet skis and small catamarans are available to rent. Out of the water, pick-up volleyball games are common and there’s a children’s playground.

Boat tours depart frequently from Marina Las Perlas. They travel across the bay to Isla Mujeres, where you can relax on stunning beaches, swim with dolphins and visit the ruins of a Mayan temple. Stroll south along the coastline for about 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) to Playa Linda. The beach eventually becomes a boardwalk, which passes in front of Escenica Tower and other tourist attractions.

Las Perlas Beach is located at Km 2.5 of Avenida Kukulkan, the main thoroughfare of the Hotel Zone. Free parking is available but spaces tend to fill up fast, especially at weekends. Hotels line the beachfront. Food options are limited, therefore it’s recommended to bring your own food and drink if you plan to stay all day.
