At the southern tip of Isla Mujeres lays the stunning Garrafon Natural Reef Park. Here, the Caribbean’s crystal-clear waters meet the island’s white sands, with the jungle rising to the hills above. Swim with dolphins, or go snorkeling right off the beach. For those who just want to relax, the park provides hammocks, lounges and chairs to make your day as comfortable as possible. Food and drink is available.
Snorkeling equipment is provided with your entrance to the park, so all you need to bring is your swimming gear and a towel. Launch yourself into the water from the shore, or paddle one of the park’s kayaks out to deeper water. The park also offers dolphin swim packages suitable for all ages. Should the waters get choppy, head to the park’s 100-foot (30-meter) freshwater pool, which offers spectacular views across Cancun Bay.
Climb through the jungle to the top of Punta Sur Cliff, the highest point on the Yucatan Peninsula, for the best photo opportunities on the island. Along with the stunning views, you’ll find the Punta Sur Sculpture Garden, featuring the works of 23 artists from around the world. Make the journey to the nearby Mayan Temple, dedicated to the goddess of Ixchel. Despite being heavily damaged by Hurricane Gilbert in 1988, the remnants are a fascinating insight to the Mayan culture of the island. From the top of the cliff, take the exhilarating zip line back down to the waters below.
Visitors to the Garrafon Natural Reef Park receive access to the complimentary buffet during their stay. Garrafon Natural Reef Park is located on Isla Mujeres, which can be reached by boat from Cancun. The park is open daily, and an admission fee covers most activities.
