Cricklewood Travel Guide

Cricklewood is an area in the north-eastern part of London nestled between the boroughs of Brent, Barnet and Camden. The area is convenient to local and national rail.

Hotels in Cricklewood

There are several modern and well-priced hotels in the Cricklewood area. The area is a good base for commuters and those needing to travel north of the city.

Things to See and Do in Cricklewood

Cricklewood is an area much like other areas of London in that it has a bustling high street and plenty of shops for basics and other items. The area itself has been rejuvenated over the years to include a new square and market area.

Cricklewood is close to Barnet, where plenty of sports and leisure centres are available with squash, indoor football and multipurpose gyms.

Within walking distance of Cricklewood is Freud’s Museum, once home to the famous psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and home to the Freud family right up until 1982. The home is open to the public to explore and has not changed much since the family lived there. The interior contains antiques and heirlooms left behind by the Freud family.

Cricklewood is also not too far away from Hampstead Heath, where long walks and pub lunches are a must. Hampstead Heath also affords great panoramic views over London and has its own bathing ponds – Hampstead Ponds - for those brave enough to take a dip. During the summer do not be surprised to find hordes of people sunbathing along the common and sipping pints outside pubs.

Of course, Cricklewood is only a short journey to central London if you are wanting to discover the city’s main tourist attractions and highlights. In nearby North London there is the eclectic and vibrant area of Notting Hill. The area is well worth a visit on the weekend when Portobello Road is filled with antiques and other unique items. Notting Hill also has its annual carnival the last bank holiday of August, which many come from near and far to enjoy.

Eating and Drinking in Cricklewood

In addition to Cricklewood’s own mix of eateries, bars and pubs, there is also the nearby area of Kilburn with its lively pubs and extended selection of places to dine out. Kilburn has a large community of Irish descendants and its pubs are therefore often filled with the sound of traditional Irish music.
