"This place is quite the gem. The rooms are set up motel style with entrances to the outside. We did not know that going in, but the rooms were very clean and well styled and appointed. Beds were very comfy. The common area has a kitchen with some snacks and coffee and tea readily available all the time. There’s a living area with fireplace and multiple tables. The breakfast was served with a cozy fire ablaze. The staff was superior, very gracious and welcoming. Overall an excellent experience...

"Lots of history here. Lovely old hotel! With an old building come problems...like lack of outlets at the head of the bed, which in this age of needing to charge devices is a problem. And breathing machines! I use my phone for a clock at night and have it on the bedside table, but plugged in, which I could not do. Also, I am a tea drinker and couldn't find tea bags and a way to make hot water there in the room, though there was a coffee maker. These are small things, just minor annoyances in an...

"Howard Johnson's is a reliable place to stay when I visit Amherst. It's clean, comfortable, affordable and conveniently located. Nothing posh or fancy about it, but it serves its purpose well. Mini fridge in room is a nice plus. Would be nice if they had in-room microwaves."
