Thunderbird Lodge is well situated on Grand Canyon South Rim. But I had a hard time to find its place to check in. Because it doesn’t have any lobby for check in. Instead the check in is at Bright Angel Lodge. I was told there was a sign. Unfortunately I didn’t see any notice on the building entrances in the dark night until I was informed by a passerby.

Location is Incredible. The lodge is a minute walk from the edge of the canyon. Check-in is the lodge next door. I don't think they have an elevator. We were on the first floor. I don't know if the TV worked as we spent our time hiking. There is a free shuttle system that is a 2 minute walk from the door. The parking situation is first come, first serve and you might have a bit of a hike as parking is free and not registered. There is a small fridge in the room. The shower head is shorter than I'm accustomed to and the furnishings are sufficient, but definitely on the basic side.

The room is so dirty and dusty. They have tea bags in the room, but no hot water kettle or microwave to heat up water. The front desk staff asked us to use the coffee machine to make hot water for tea. The coffee machine was so dirty as well. Basically we have paid $400 for a small dirty room with no amenities. It’s really more like a hostel, not a hotel.

Accommodation is dated and in need of updating. Bathroom is quite small with little counter space. Room smelled musty. Our room was at then end near the door going out and we could hear every person in and out which made for an early wake up.

So convenient-walk outside and there is the canyon at any time of the day! Rooms were comfortable and shower had nice pressure and had a bar for safety. Could walk to restaurants. Very quiet. If you can, go the week after Thanksgiving-not many tourists!
