The Fold - superb lower-price getaway for those appreciating the country
The cottage was an ideal base to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside. It was very spacious, perfect for the two of us and we never tired of the amazing view. We hope to return once if not twice next year!

Amazing stay overlooking the sheep
Absolutely incredible location for anyone looking to take a pause from a busy lifestyle and enjoy the wonderful English countryside. From picking up fresh eggs from a Neighbor to sitting back and literally counting the sheep it was a dream.

Holiday with hubby and dogs
The property could do with updating. The seating and bed were hard and uncomfortable. The cupboard handles were coming off. Cobwebs behind furniture and the pans were dirty. I wouldn't stay there again.

Quiet country get away. Superb location and views. Spacious for 2. Advise to bring toilet rolls and bin liners, your own pillows if you don't like thin ones. Be aware no sofa and 2 armchairs present are firm.

Fabulous
We stayed here with our dog and the place was fantastic. Lovely cool floors to lay on for when he got too hot as the weather was gorgeous. The little village was perfect for our early morning walk, up to the church, down to the Ford or on the bridal ways. The property was just right for us and a great base to explore the surrounding area wether it’s in Cumbria, the dales or Durham. We had some great adventures. Thanks

The cottage requires updating equipment especially the kitchen equipment. Very old fridge and microwave if people are to let property they should make sure that all house hold equipment should be updated. The garden requires weeding and attention Would not stay there again

Lovely retreat in quiet countryside
I really enjoyed my stay here. It’s a lovely cottage and is clearly the owners home for part of the year which means it feels homely and not like a soulless rental cottage. Lots of interesting walks in the area and not far to drive to Kirkby Stephen and other places for pubs. Perfect for my little writing holiday.

Our stay at the fold was excellent, much larger than portrayed on the site. Lovely setting in the village with great views from the windows at the rear of the property over fields to the hills in the distance. The only downside for us was the lack of comfortable seating in the lounge, a sofa would have been so much better. Overall it was a very good property and we enjoyed our holiday there.

Lovely cottage with beautiful views.
Agree with all the reviews (except the last one!). True there's no sofa but plenty of comfortable seating. Slightly quirky and everything you need. Cosy with an excellent log burner. Two bathrooms, a powerful shower and comfy bed. More spacious than the pictures suggest. Excellent value. Dogs loved the walks and the garden is enclosed. Very quiet village, the cottage is situated on the edge with excellent views. Definitely like to return!

Serious problems
Why was there no sofas in the living room instead 4 very old uncomfortable badly damaged armchairs that should be used as firewood. The patio doors from living room to outside let in so much rain it flooded the floor. The kitchen table and 3 chairs again held together with glue and nails and wobbled so much we were afraid to eat at it. Where the boiler connects to the wall rain water was coming in very dangerous. The oven trays hadn't been cleaned at all and had to be scrubbed before use. The only chairs we could sit in were 2 garden chairs in the small conservatory. Although the area was lovely the unfortunate issues with the cottage have put us off using this place again.

very well appointed, equipped and comfortable. it was easy to relax there.
the cottage was delightful, well equipped, very comfortable and beautiful scenery. Plenty of walks of various levels and opportunities to photograph steam trains, my husband's hobby. the villagers were friendly. lots of activities near by, we went fly fishing, trains spotting and riding and potter watching Downside for our week was the weather but that's 'nature' for you. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a quiet retreat, or good walks.

A well thought out & reasonably priced barn conversion.Great view from the sunroom.Pet friendly as well. N.B. after leaving Soulby heading towards Crosby Garrett, the signpost for the left turn for C.Garrett is missing.I would advise you to use a well known search engine's Streetview to familiarise yourself with the turning!

Wonderful quiet home-from-home in east Cumbria
Provided as a venue for two people, the accommodation is first class in a lovely part of the country. Sitting on the patio the northern Pennines are in the distance, and just over the garden's dry-stone wall the sheep appear to have a conversation with others in the adjacent fields and across on the nearby hills. As a widower I was on my own but the cottage (it seems more like one being the end of a former barn) which is delightfully furnished would be very comfortable for two. It was so lovely, and in the record-breaking summer of 2018 not too hot! Walks onto the hills can be taken direct from the front door, with shops and the usual facilities in nearby Kirkby Stephen.
