Visit Duesseldorf’s pretty harbor district to uncover innovative architecture, historic monuments, excellent waterfront dining and exciting adventures on the Rhine.

Medienhafen is a unique harbor district southwest of the city center. When the precinct was revitalized for the 21st century, developers were careful not to remove historic features. Explore the harbor district to see its stunning skyline, which incorporates a medley of architectural styles. The harbor’s gritty working character is retained in quay walls, cast-iron bollards and old cranes, while superb contemporary buildings form the backdrop. Visit acclaimed restaurants or go on a sightseeing voyage on the Rhine River.

Get acquainted with Medienhafen’s “architectural mile.” The city’s skyline was reimagined by architectural luminaries such as Frank Gehry, David Chipperfield, Joe Coenen, Steven Holl and Claude Vasconi. Check out Gehry’s beautifully designed buildings, which resemble the old warehouses that formerly crowded the harborside. Today, around 700 companies have offices in the harbor’s modern and revitalized buildings.

Wander along the promenade and enjoy the views of the river or find a café to have your morning coffee. Find some of the city’s finest restaurants in this waterfront district. Order a meal from one of the city’s gastronomical innovators or grab a drink from one of the district’s trendy bars. Stay around until after dark to check out Medienhafen’s nightclubs.

The district is the perfect launch pad for water adventures on the Rhine. Sign up for a rafting tour or go on a yacht trip. Rickshaws and Segways are also available for exploring the waterfront. The harbor presents a range of specialty tours. Join a photography tour to get a different perspective on the harbor’s eclectic design or take a tour of the district’s epicurean highlights. Book your accommodations at one of Medienhafen’s hotels to have the exciting district on your doorstep.

Medienhafen is a short distance south of Duesseldorf’s Altstadt (Old Town). It is easy to reach via the city’s railway system. Alternatively, park your car at one of the on-site garages. The district is open to visitors any time of the day for free however, some tour experiences may have an admission fee.
