All of the cottages were attractive from the outside. The entrance to the property was right off the main highway, yet wasn't noisy. The cookware was in pristine condition. The bed was comfortable and many layers of covers of various thickness were provided, so you could get your temperature just right. I would have appreciated if I could have turned off the outside light on the cottage. I don't like coming in the window at night when I'm trying to sleep. There was a blind, but no curtain to block the light.

The grounds are beautiful. The accommodations are very nice with the exception of the beds ROCK HARD and uncomfortable. The tent glamping has a curfew of 9pm and the walls are transparent. The staff is not aware of privacy issues and should place guests one room apart in order to mitigate the sound pollution from one room to the other.

A real gem for an unusual stay
We recently stayed in one of the tent cabins at the Carmel River Inn. It was a fun change of pace, and a great way to escape the heat in the Bay Area. Our tent was the definition of "glamping" – a tent connected to a kitchenette and bathroom – super clean, with every single detail attended to, from the supplies in the kitchenette to the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, but nothing to write home about. (I'll be honest, a more comfortable mattress would have made this a 5-star review in every category.) I love nothing more than to travel and sleep in a bed more comfortable than my own (which isn't asking for much). That said, tent cabins may not be for the faint of heart. It was mostly very quiet and we tried to stay quiet to not disturb our neighbors (who are pretty close, to be honest). We LOVED all the bird sounds, and frogs, and we're pretty sure we heard foxes, too. However, one thing we heard was the salesman next door on Zoom calls from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. one morning. In his defense, I don't think he knew we could hear him (and the person he was talking to, also), and we didn't take any action (we didn't contact the office or speak to him). But it's something to be aware of if you're looking for complete quiet. We were there for three days, and of the neighbors who came and went, including a family with kids, he was the most disruptive. of them. Would we return? Absolutely. BTW, photos don't do this place justice. Adorable cabins, great landscaping.

What an absolute gem. We stayed to be close to Carmel by the sea and Big Sur. Carmel was a little over a mile away and Big Sur about 45 minutes. It was our perfect, large, quite, beautiful grounds, retreat at the end of the day. Away from the hustle and bustle of Carmel but still close enough to have good cell reception and WiFi. Beautiful grounds to walk and nice parking areas right outside our cottage. Staff was kind and friendly, especially Umberto when we checked in.

I enjoyed that it felt like a neighborhood and didn’t have any problems with other guests being too loud or anything. The only thing I didn’t like was that there were bugs everywhere, but that just comes with the location and just how green it is within the property. Overall a great experience.
