Museum of Liverpool

From the Beatles to the Liverpool Football Club, the King’s Regiment to the neighborhoods of Merseyside, this award-winning museum celebrates Liverpool’s proud past.

At the Museum of Liverpool, follow the city’s journey from a small tidal inlet to the second-biggest city in the British Empire and one of the world’s most important ports. This award-winning museum is a celebration of the city’s musical, sporting, industrial and social spirit, which continues to reverberate around the globe.

The museum opened in 2011 and is the largest national museum to be built in the United Kingdom for more than 100 years. One of modern Liverpool’s most striking buildings, the museum stands 85 feet (26 meters) high and is powered using state of the art renewable energy technologies.

Visit the Wondrous Place Gallery on the second floor to uncover some of Liverpool’s greatest performers, artists and sports people. Don’t miss the In the Town Where I was Born Beatles show and the Kicking and Screaming football show, which both offer fully immersive film experiences. Elsewhere, The People’s Republic room gives an insight into life in Liverpool over the last 200 hundred years. Here you will find the first car ever to be produced at the city’s Ford factory in 1963 as well as a stunning glass map of the city.

Explore the History Detectives Gallery on the first floor and delve deeper into the city’s past, from the Ice Age to the present day. On the ground floor you will find Little Liverpool, which offers young children the chance to build their own version of the city in an interactive environment. Children must be accompanied in this area and you can collect a free ticket for a 30-minute session at the welcome desk near the main entrance on the ground floor. Also on this floor is a gift shop and a café.

The Museum of Liverpool is open every day and is free to enter. Located in the center of town, the museum is a short walk from James Street Station and Paradise Street Bus Station.
