Explore a Mars-like terrain on Earth in this bizarre valley as you visit cave churches and clamber over pink rock formations and fairy chimneys.

Rose Valley is an intriguing landscape full of reddish-pink rocks, fairy chimneys and stunning views. It is known, along with its partner, Red Valley, as one of the most scenic walking regions in all of Cappadocia. Trek through this Mars-like terrain for hours to discover all its unusual features at your own pace. It is particularly enchanting at sunrise and sunset.

Start at the Panoramic Viewpoint, which offers photo opportunities of the curious rose-colored rocks in the valley below. Take a look around Haçli Church, built into a small dark red mountain. Browse the frescoes on display and appreciate the carved ceiling. Peer out through the church’s window to get an elevated view of Red Valley and Rose Valley. Do not miss Ayvali Church, which contains many enchanting murals and ornate decoration.

Stay for sunset to see the mesmerizing effects of the fading light on the pink rock formations and their growing shadows. Capture photos at different times of the day for a range of colors and shades. Take your time exploring the paths, which meander through about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) of otherworldly terrain.

Note the scenic orchards and vineyards and charming horse-drawn carriages scuttling through the valley.

After walking around, take a relaxing break at a café. Browse the small shops and stands where you can purchase souvenirs from the region.

The valley takes its name from the reddish-pink hue of its landscape as well as the many rose bushes that once grew here. Over time, grapevines have gradually replaced the roses.

Find Rose Valley next to Red Valley, just north of the town of Göreme, which is the focal point of the Cappadocia district. The 2-mile (3.2-kilometer) journey should take about 10 minutes by bus or car. Expect to pass the Göreme Open Air Museum. Many tour buses take passengers to this pink valley from Göreme.
