Wasaga Beach Provincial Park

Explore hiking trails, relax on one of the world’s longest freshwater beaches and visit a historic site at this picturesque park.

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is a scenic place for outdoor adventures. Hike, bike or ski along well-maintained trails, swim and kayak in Lake Huron and visit a historic war site. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park’s 17 acres (7 hectares) of natural habitat is home to white-tailed deer and more than 200 species of bird, including the endangered piping plover.

Within the park is an 18-mile (29-kilometer) network of natural trails that wind across sand dunes and through thick forests. Hike or bike the trails in the warm summer months and go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing along the same routes during the winter. The trails are suitable for all levels of fitness and skiing ability. Look for wildlife such as white-tailed deer, owls, warblers and the piping plover.

Find more outdoor pursuits on the Nottawasaga River, fish for freshwater bass, rainbow trout and salmon, or paddle a rented kayak along the Nottawasaga Canoe Route. There is more water-based fun at the park’s Wasaga Beach. This is one of the world’s longest freshwater beaches. Swim, sunbathe and participate in such watersports as Jet Skiing.

Visit the Wasaga Beach Welcome Centre to pick up park maps and see interpretive exhibits about the history of Wasaga Beach. From here, take the short footbridge over the Nottawasaga River to the Nancy Island Historic Site. Visit the museum and theater to retrace the story of HMS Nancy, a British schooner that served in the Anglo-American War of 1812. Watch reenactments of historical events, take part in cannon demonstrations and view the replica Great Lakes lighthouse.

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park sits in the heart of the town of Wasaga Beach. Free parking can be found at the Wasaga Nordic and Trail Centre, which also rents out skiing equipment. Metered parking is available at the beach. The park is open from April to October and December to March.
