A captivating capital, world-famous night clubs and bars, and all the beach relaxation you could dream of; there’s no denying that Ibiza is the holiday destination that has it all.
For many people, “Ibiza” is a word that conjures up visions of beach bars, vibrant clubs and all-night partying. But while this Balearic island certainly boasts one of the best clubbing scenes on the planet, it’s also a place of stunning natural scenery, art, culture and history. The chilled vibe, delicious Spanish cuisine and gorgeous weather make Ibiza an immensely relaxing place to escape to, even for a short city break.
The island capital of Ibiza Town can be easily reached from the international airport, just 4 miles southwest of the city centre. Once in the capital, you’ll find yourself spoilt for things to see and do. However, many visitors start with a tour of the old quarter, known locally as the Dalt Vila. Take a leisurely stroll through the back streets, admire the cathedral, explore the Museum of Contemporary Art and gaze out over the city from the magnificent surrounding ramparts.
Ibiza Town also has some fantastic clubs (Pacha being the most famous), but Sant Antoni de Portmany, aka San Antonio, is the place to be if you’re searching for the best party atmosphere. If you'd rather escape the crowds, you can head inland and take a relaxed tour of the island's quiet whitewashed villages - Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera being a particular highlight. Alternatively, make your way underground and explore the illuminated caves at Cueva Can Marca.
As for the beaches? Well, there’s a huge amount of choice. Bossa is one of the most popular, and is only a short drive southwest from the centre of Ibiza Town. Just north of San Antonio, you'll find Cala Gracio, and at the island’s northeastern tip, are glorious stretches along Cala de Sant Vicent and Portinatx.
Lastly, don’t forget that wherever you go in Ibiza, you’ll find delicious Balearic cuisine. The island has some excellent food, and provides everything from tasty beach-side snacks to fine dining restaurants.
Your only problem? Once you get a taste of Ibiza island life, you won’t want to leave.
