Concerts and services for the entire family keep the community going strong in this historic church, which has an impressive Spanish frontage.

Majestic stained-glass windows brighten up the elegant nave of the First Presbyterian Church, which plays a major role in the local community. Educational programs and concerts bring believers together in this religious hub. Meet like-minded people in this pillar of Fort Lauderdale’s culture and history.

Admire the Spanish design of the church’s façade, which has a pair of twin towers and holds a cross above a large circular window. The interior of the church is dominated by its colorful stained-glass windows that stand above a wooden cross. Take a seat on a wooden pew, as you listen to a service in this charming setting.

Newcomers are encouraged to attend some of the church’s many events and activities, from the Happyland Day School and the eight ministries to the annual concert series and other classes. Let your kids learn and play in the graded choir program. Chat with the clergy to learn about the history of the church, which was founded in 1912.

Attend a Sunday worship service, which has a traditional version and a more contemporary service for casual followers. Enjoy a breakfast in the St. Andrew’s Room of the Neumann Center on Sundays. Note that Sunday sermons are available on the church’s website as podcasts.

Sit on a bench in Colee Hammock Park opposite the church and appreciate the serenity of the neighborhood. The park is located at Tarpon Bend, an excellent spot to watch riverboats cruising on the water.

Find the First Presbyterian Church west of Las Olas Isles and just north of the New River in the eastern section of Fort Lauderdale. Ride the bus to a stop on the highway a couple blocks north of the site. You can also drive and leave your car in a parking spot outside.

Make your way around the surroundings to see nearby sights such as the All Saints Episcopal Church, Annie Beck Park and the International Swimming Hall of Fame Museum.
