While trying to contact the Host, there were no helpful responses to resolve the issue. Eventually, we needed to pay 400 for an hotel room upfront. Honestly, I think that is really important and helpful - that the owner was willing to communicate and help with guidance to access the unit. Which turned out to be very simple!
