Museum of Science

Let your inner-geek run wild amid the hundreds of innovative, hands-on exhibits at this Boston museum.

The Museum of Science promotes hands-on learning with hundreds of fascinating exhibits. Set aside a day to get the most out of the museum’s 700 exhibits, spread across three floors. There’s also a daily program of live shows and screenings in the IMAX theater, 3-D digital cinema and planetarium.

Don’t miss one of the three daily Lightning! shows, which feature dramatic indoor bolts of lightning. At the Super Cold Science performance watch as liquid nitrogen is used to create dramatic and sometimes bizarre changes to various objects.

There’s lots to choose from for kids of all ages, as well as adults. Open drawers, look in mirrors, press buttons and turn cranks as you learn about topics as varied as optical illusions to the inner-workings of the human body.

Visit the Live Animal Presentation, which explores the ecology and behavior of some of the museum’s 120 residents, including reptiles, birds and furry mammals. Wander through the Butterfly Garden, a warm conservatory filled with tropical plants and fluttering beauties from across the globe. At Colossal Fossil, get up close to a complete, 65-million-year-old triceratops skeleton.

Climb inside a simulator and experience a deep-sea adventure, a journey through the solar system, or a flight aboard an historic aircraft. Recharge your batteries at one of the many eateries, but for fabulous views of the Charles River, head for the Riverview Café.

The Museum of Science is located in Science Park, which spans the Charles River and is accessible by public transportation. The museum is open daily, except major holidays. Entry to most of the live presentations is free with a general Exhibit Halls ticket. Additional entry fees apply for the planetarium, IMAX and 3-D theaters.
