Whitewashed exterior walls help it stand out amongst the dramatic landscape, and the one and a half storey traditional design provides characterful and memorable accommodation for those staying. The cottage, which is next door to the owner is approached from the rear, and is nestled down on its own plot which overlooks Loch Snizort, the River Snizort flowing into the loch, and the grand Skeabost Hotel with golf course. It’s a mesmerising position and one that people staying will enjoy looking out onto. Round to the front of the house the enclosed garden is very large and runs down towards the water, however, there is croft land with cattle grazing before the valley bottom. Your nearest neighbour may very well be a ginger haired Highland Coo! Entering the property there is a sense of deception – it’s more spacious than you think, croft houses tend to be. To the right is the large kitchen with dining table, and to the left an inviting living room with wood burner. Both rooms have an incredible view across the valley and the sea loch. Between the two rooms there is a large family bathroom and the stairs leading up to the first floor. At the top of the stairs there is a twin room and a double room. Both a good size and comfortable for a family of four or two couples.
The cottage is situated in the crofting community of Tote which is near to Skeabost Bridge. Only 5 miles north from Portree, the cottage is ideally located to explore the best of what the island has to offer. Being at Tote Cottage means you’re only 15 minutes from The Fairy Glen, 25 minutes from both the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr, and only 30 minutes from the Cuillin sites, the Talisker Distillery and Dunvegan Castle. Skeabost Bridge itself has a quite a bit to see and do. The grand old hotel, which can be seen from the cottage across the sea loch, is set amongst its own grounds complete with golf course and the meandering River Snizort (the best salmon fishing river on Skye). In addition to this, besides the old bridge, you will find St. Columba’s Isle where there is an ancient burial ground, an old parish church believed to be late medieval, and the older and more intact Chapel of St. Columba dating to the 11th century. Tradition claims that 28 Nicolson chiefs were buried in this mortuary chapel. It’s a fascinating place to walk down to from the cottage for a wee explore. Beach 20 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 5 miles.
